It shares no similarity with regulation for protecting the environment. I can cite many examples of the FCC regulating providers to create competition and killing it instead. Look at the FCC and how under served markets are regulated with Commnet ending up squatting on rural licenses because of the regulation that cellular licenses have to have x amount of coverage. How is that serving consumers? It was a well-intended regulation that ended up crippling rural coverage by regulating license area into the hands of politically connected companies that are up to no good.
