Baldi, ram apparently was an issue to samsung:

And isn't the Nexus JB a "preview" put out by xda? These links refer to upcoming jb, not yet avail.

On Nexus S, this refers to launcher redraws and other intensive cpu activity:

First and foremost. I would take anything from Verge with a grain of salt.

Samsung had the source for JB long before any of the Galaxy S 3's were released. If they thought it required more RAM, ALL of the variants would have had 2GB.

That would mean JB was completed long before the S3's were. The S3 was released a month ago. Long before that would mean many months ago. When did Samsung get it and how do you know?

The Korean S3 got Exynos and 2 gb ram.

Having now used my 1gb ram s3 for four days now i can safely say that its fine with o ly 1gb of ram. When you boot the phone and are just sitting at homescreen touchwiz is onky taking up about 365mb of the 780 total. So theres tons left for whatever. I have yet to get beyond 600mb used as far as ive noticed.
Just had a look there and after using all day as normal, mostly emailing and browsing facey and posting here only 415mb used.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

That's all well and good now, but what about in a year's time, when apps have grown more and take up more RAM?
This is exactly what has happened to me with every Android phone I've ever had (and I started out with the G1) - at first it's fine, but eventually I end up having to load a stripped down ROM on it to try and make it perform acceptably.

I have no doubt that in a year's time 1GB of RAM is not going to cut it for me, and then I'll be stuck in the middle of a 2yr contract. 2GB RAM would provide a nice bit of future-proofing.

So how can I tell what's what on my ram? Bionic says 344 mb used, 342 free, where's the rest?

Samsung is one of Google's biggest partners. It only makes sense that they have been testing Jelly Bean for QUITE some time on the Galaxy Nexus. Their flagship phone - which happens to have 1GB of RAM as well.

Of course programs are getting bigger, no doubt about that, but I would bet money that the next version of Touchwiz that runs on Jelly Bean will be lighter.

I still go by the motto that with Linux/Android that "Unused RAM is wasted RAM".

Thanks. Right it makes sense, but you stated it as fact so I thought you knew. I would guess Google, not Samsung, is releasing Jb for nexus.

I figured out some of it. Task manager shows android system using 143 mb. Everything can be listed but it gives no total?

    Makes beaucoup sense, to me.

And resolves the questions in my mind as to how Samsung could say it will release the GNote II in October with Jelly Bean on board. Without early access, the only possibility would be vanilla Android. And *that* has seemed to be anathema to all carriers and manufacturers alike, unless constrained by the Nexus program.

But it also raises equity questions. How could one Android partner get the SDK and source code *way* early and the others not? I'm betting that if one has it then they all have it. Which would have other interesting implications.

Or... Could GNote II be one of the 5 Nexus devices scheduled for Q4 ?

I don't find Samsung saying that anywhere. MK Business Times said that. But it would be great.

Don't know what you mean. To me, it could be ICS or JB; either of those being stock or Touchwiz. Since Touchwiz is an overlay, I don't see how it would make a difference.

That would be cool but a departure from Note 1.

I had a NA SGS3 home for a day and had a few moments of "ah haaa" before its return.

First disappointment was that default auto display brightness is a failure when outdoors.
My 4year Droid display has better brightness in auto mode.
Xda-developers group has patch for the i9300 model only to boost brightness.
Hopefully this will be resolved in future firmware releases.

Second fault was noticing I was victim of the HSPA+ and/or LTE marketing hype. It is not in my area...
This boosts consideration of the international i9300 model.

Third disappointment was with lack of app for the hardware FM radio. I have another thread elsewhere where Samsung states the hw is present but app presence is carrier choice. Will have to wait if xda-developers and/or spirit FM group has success in determining chipset for FM radio etc
    .
There was a forth issue with wallpapers but I assume this is my learning curve with Froyo -> ICS.

I remain hopefull with the development progress on the NA models with 2G ram. At present there are strong indications that the hardware among T-mobile/Wind/ATT/Bell/Telus is all identical and its radio software reconfigurable for HSPA+/LTE. Then there is the promise that the $0.50 fm radio is present but just needs appropriate application.

The HTC ONE X has everything but cannot accept the packaging, SD, battery limitations. sigh.
So the battle remains i9300 vs i747
    .

Picky. The mag reported that Samsung had communicated directly, the story wasn't presented as a leak. [EDIT: Rereading: not so.] But I share your skepticism which is what I explained in my post.

Time to go through the normal TW process with JB is the obvious question. Baldilocks observation could be a possible explanation.

Some of the reporters further down the grapevine are not good at attribution. Here's the only cited article I found if you're interested:

    http://news.mk.co.kr/english/newsRea...2012&no=360619

Won't change anything but I'll probably not be able to get it anyway. So it's all moot for me. You? You'll have your s3.

That is the article I was referring to:
"The sequel model will also use Android’s Jelly Bean operating system (OS), a successor to the current Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS..." [from your link]

Got the S3 for last subsidy and to save NE2. May sell it, idk. Watching to see what it becomes... Def won't open the box til full root and full return to stock are routine.

Tried to buy a Tbolt on Cowboom last week, but couldn't get past my PO box...

Can you post a link to the thread with the Samsung FM radio statement?
