Well, now we have the surprise (to me anyway) answer to the GNote II with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean conundrum -- JB is already here!
So, a new criterion for the OP decision:
Which handset is most likely to get the earliest JB OTA?

Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus will most likely get JB OTA mid July. The S3 is rumored to get it this fall or Q4. I'm not sure how much JB makes that much of a difference over ICS on the S3 though, since the S3 is already buttery smooth already.
In any case, the S3 getting JB starting September is plausible, given that the Note 2 is rumored to have JB, and they want to do this to be competitive over iPhone 5, Windows Phone 8, and the next set of Nexus.

Sounds encouraging. Hope you're right.

Addendum: locked & encrypted bootloaders on vzw i535 model. So, it don't matter any more.
