Installous 5 has been released! Includes BitTorrent downloading support
Installous 5 has just been released bringing number of killer features in addition to minor improvements and bug fixes. The most notable feature of Installous 5 is support for BitTorrent download and the new iOS notification system.
Installous 5 has now become the first mobile installation client to support BitTorrent downloading but it will only seed from the iOS device during the download is ongoing and you’re connected to WiFi network. When the download finishes, it will stop seeding.
Installous 5 app even allows you to pause and resume downloads, a pro-feature which most filehosts don’t support for users having free account. Currently, very few applications have torrent support but it will be extended over the next month or so. Developer Dissident added:
Installous uses magnet links, a decentralized way of obtaining torrent metadata. As a result, we don’t host any .torrent files. We also use peer exchange (PEX), otherwise known as trackerless torrents. Both of these features make the entire process completely decentralized and uninterruptable. Demagnetization may be slow in some cases (especially for obscure apps), but we’ll be working hard to speed up that process.
Installous v5.0 uses libtransmission from the Transmission OSX client, which includes support for all modern BitTorrent features (DHT, UPNP, encryption, etc.).
