Travelling through Ontario for a few days...best way to use my US iPhone?

    Hi everyone,

I have been searching and searching and can't find the answer to my question. I have an unlocked AT&T US iPhone 4. Currently, I use a US prepaid MVNO, so I do not get international roaming. I will be spending a few days at the end of the months in Burlington and Toronto and cannot figure out what my best option would be. I have looked into the Rogers prepaid plans, but it sounds like I won't be able to call the US. I need to be able to have some sort of international calling. Am I just overlooking something? Is there a better option?

    Thanks!

    Shannon

You can call to the US with Rogers prepaid. Rogers charges 40 cents a minute plus airtime to call the US if you don't have a long distance add-on. There is a $5 add-on that reduces the rate to 10 cents a minute plus airtime. You can also do their MY5 Local plan which is 20.75 for 30 days and gives you unlimited local calling to any preprogrammed five numbers. You can program a calling card with a Toronto access number.

Virgin Mobile prepaid also has a $30 add-on that gives you unlimited North American long distance. Airtime charges still apply.

Thanks those sound like some great options! I'll have to do my homework and figure out which would be most cost effective.

    Try 7-11 Speakout:

Long Distance to USA is only an extra 2c / min above the air-time rate (25c / min). The only problem is finding a SIM. There are not too many 7-11 stores around in Ontario.

The best idea so far has been Fido. They'll be much easier to find and reload, and will actually have micro Sims. 7/11 almost definitely won't, unless I'm under informed, and I'd think the whole Sim cutting process isn't worth it for a few days of travel.
