T-Mobile is ready for the Belmont Stakes horse race this weekend too! Just across the Cross Island Pkwy from the stadium are several trucks with cellular antennas on them that were raised up in the air. An area with 2 bars of service now gives me full service strength as I drive by. These were just set up yesterday.
I understand this isn't an emergency situation, but it was nice to see that there ARE trucks around that can provide cell service if needed, not just as social gatherings.
T-Mobile was the first down and the last up here during the tornado's because almost none of their sites here have generators.
This press release specifically states that they have added or improved back up services at their cell sites.
furthermore, what - did yall miss the thread I posted in coverage discussion before this one?

"We have made significant investments in supplemental cell site backup generators, microwave technology equipment and cell-on-wheels (COWs), along with other tools and equipment to enhance the stability and, when necessary, the recovery of our network operations.
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage
Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network
Tmobile is definitely better at disaster recovery than they used to be. I've seen some of their cows set up. Used to never see that.

It's almost identical to T-Mobile's.
Cause if they don't, nobody can make calls? How do you think they get connected? Not out of thin air. If they can't get data access from anybody else (cable companies like brighthouse, comcast, time warner) then they have no choice but to use the local telco.
It seems you still don't understand the question. You're mixing backhaul and interconnection. I want to know why the mobile carriers can't have their own shared interconnection service, independent of ATT. They don't rely on ATT to interconnect SMS. Text messages worked just fine after Katrina.
Text messages were reliable after Ike about 2/3 of the time. Voice connections were pretty bad prior to 7 p.m. too. I don't think it was "business as usual" for cellphones in my area until 4-6 weeks after Hurricane Ike.
4 to 6 weeks is a long time.
