    iPhone 4/4S on Virgin Mobile

Just curious who's planning on getting one? I can't imagine too many on a budget prepaid carrier wanting to dish out $400 for the 4 or $500 for the 4s.

Roaming is not coming to Virgin Mobile in July or anytime soon.

Hi everyone. I need to clarify comments about roaming on Virgin Mobile. Roaming is not available. We did recently update our terms and conditions (effective 7/1/12) in order to make our language more consistent with Sprint’s. There is a new reference to roaming, but we have no plans to add roaming at this time. For information on whether roaming applies, see your service plan details.

    Our sincere apologies. ^Justin C

    That is quite vague.

    Not available ...

"no plans to add at this time" ... Perhaps after July 1.

    ...See your service plan details...
Maybe New Plans after July 1 will include it ???

Off Network Roaming, if offered as an add on option (like VZW prepaid), would be a welcome addition. It is Highly Unlikely that Sprint/VM would provide that feature at No Cost.

Free Roaming is included Within the Sprint Network.

Operating without a contract makes you far more valuable.

The iPhone on Cricket has actually made NBC news being reported by national correspondent Bob Hansen.

Oh my gosh. I'm so excited about this! I hope it's pretty much "official"!

I'm mainly an android user and I also have Blackberry and WP7, but I'd totally do the iPhone no contract... I love my VM phone. I've been through several optimus Vs, as well as a couple optimus sliders, the elite, and have been looking at the Evo... But I think I'm gonna hold out for the iPhone!

I think I'm mainly drawn to the fact that it's no contract AND an iPhone. VM runs really well down here in Hawaii (better than my T-Mo phone anyway), so crappy service isn't really an issue!

    VM ftw!

I hear the weather isn't too bad there either.

dude we might be related. this is all I want too. its the reason why the straight talk option is not awesome to me. plus since I want a 4S I'm only going to pay maybe $60-$80 less just getting all the tools(iPhone 4s, sim card, first months bill). oh and most importantly, since I'll roll with stereotypes, as an "idiot proof, walled garden, fruit phone, sheepish iTard" I'd also like it to work out the box with no hassle.

I'm so excited that having to rock this LG GS170 isn't so bad considering whats coming soon.

This is good news. I just don't see myself being able to drop that kind of cash anytime soon.

It certainly is expensive and the reason many go the postpaid route.
Standard phone warranty programs don't apply either, you would need to get Apple Care.

My Sprint bill was 80 a month, this would be 55 since I need unlimited.

25 per month savings is 600 over 2 years minus the difference of 300.00 for the postpaid phone.

So for 300.00 more over 2 years you get unlimited data, roaming and CS agents that English is their primary language.

Of course there is the contract issue for some but I don't know if 12.50 a month is a huge differentiator.

In a perfect world your assumed scenario's mathematics would be "spot on". In the real world, late fees, ridiculous post paid contract taxes, and other factors drive the total cost of ownership to much higher figures.

Upgrades are also cost prohibitive on 2 year contracts, if at some point you decide you want a different device.

There is a point where the primary motivation for prepaid service (lower monthly bills) becomes nullified by steep upfront costs for a device. The iPhone may provide a glimpse of just how far a prepaid carrier can go with that approach. There's no doubt the sheer hype surrounding a no-contract iPhone could negate some of those reservations. However, if Sprint's network doesn't accomodate the high expectations, then folks will start to question the inherent value of such a prepaid offering.
