With Apple selling iPhones unlocked and AT&T being more-or-less willing to unlock theirs, Virgin's full-price-yet-still-locked offering seems like a big step backwards. This coming from Sprint, I'm not surprised. They make it as difficult as possible to purchase a phone full price if you're not a customer and even if you do own one of their phones free and clear, they still won't let you use it on anything except postpaid.

Home ISP, RR-Ultimate WiFi, $90/mo | Verizon 4G, $30/mo Unlimited
School, $5,000/semester | Work
And how many minutes does that get you?
Not 300, I'm sure.

Must be a shortage of these new phones already, I just saw someone on eBay selling a black 16gb 4s for $749
There's just not many on eBay. Probably because after eBay and PayPal fees (which end up being about 10% in total), you'd be lucky to turn a profit. The seller pocketed about $674.10, which is not enough to cover buying one in most places with sales tax.
The local rat shacks have tons of 'em in my neck of the woods. I'm not buying them to flip on eBay because as I just stated, it's a money losing proposition.
Your post implies that someone did buy one lol. I doubt anyone is stupid enough to buy one for that price.
Target now has an in-store iPhone display - at least the one I visited last night, that is. I didn't get the chance to ask whether they required in-store activation, but at least it gives people the chance to use the Red Card 5% off to bring down the price a bit.
CDMA version of iPhone Coming - Hope for VZW!
