I have rooted my older Sprint HTC Evo about 2 years ago and have used it as a hotspot successfully for a great while now. I just recently noticed that the app to make my phone a free wifi hotspot is no longer working. It will broadcast a wifi connection, and I can pull it up and connect to it but when I connect to it I will not have internet. I've tried a few other apps and some are for pay and others just don't work. What do I need to do to be able to get it to work as a WiFi Hotspot again for free?
The app I'm currently using and have been using previously with success is just called "Wireless Tether".
SOOOooo I've been having the same issue... been looking to see who all might be experiencing the same thing.. AND I haven't found anyone else posting something similar or other sites.
I've had my rooted HTC evo 4g for a while now using the "Swagged out stock" rom and NEVER had issues with the wifi... all my devices (PCs, iPods, Playstation etc.) work GREAT for the longest time.. all of a sudden one day websites on the PC won't load.. the playstation times out when it connects, and the iPod won't load websites.
I've noticed that when you first turn it on you can load websites, but after like 5-10 mins. it stops working.
All the devices show as being connected to the wifi.
The weird thing is that if I go to the same websites on my phone's browser .. it all loads fine!
I really don't know what it could be.. I've even tried several other wifi apps and different roms.. still have the same issue.. The only thing I can come up with is that Sprint may have some how found out how to either block or limit the data flow based on how much you use.
IT REALLY sucks tho... please keep me updated if you find a solution or hear something.
