Do you know how "good" Verizon is in your area? They have a huge coverage footprint, no doubt, but their 3G can be slow as molasses too in many areas.
You can always use Page Plus if you want to bring your own phone to VZW.

So I've narrowed my choice down to a Samsung Proclaim and a Pantech Burst. The way I see it is that the Proclaim is an above average 'basic' android phone at a good price. Screen is OK. Speed is good and battery is OK. The major selling point is that it's on the Verizon network.
The Burst has better specs; speed, memory, screen... and it gets ICS this summer supposedly. However it's on AT&T- which I now have and it's only OK where is work/live.
So an OK phone on Verizon versus a better phone (getting ICS) on AT&T.
Does that make sense?

I have the Burst and it's great, but I have excellent reception with AT&T. To me if the reception is spotty that is a deal breaker.
If Sprint is good in your area, you might consider Virgin Mobile. They are now selling the Evo V with ICS and it's on Wimax which is Sprint's version of 4G.
