    Verizon Planning Massive LTE Expansion June 21

    from phonescoop:

    Verizon Wireless announced a large number of smaller markets where it will soon launch LTE 4G for the first time. The markets include Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks region in Missouri. In addition to the Missouri markets, Verizon is also soon launching LTE in Bedford, Pa.; Jacksonville, New Barn, and Burlington, N.C.; Seymour and Columbus, Ind.; and Gainesville and Panama City, Fla. Most of the new markets will see LTE service go live on or around June 21. Verizon Wireless is also expanding LTE coverage in a number of existing markets, including parts of Idaho and eastern Oregon; The Triangle in North Carolina; Palm Beach, Volusia and Flagler counties in Florida; and southeastern Massachusetts.

    is it really massive or is that PR-speak?

    I'm not sure that is the full June list, but if it is, I see 10 new markets there. They need around 20 a month to meet their goals, so this would be a small expansion to say the least. However clicking the verizon link from phonescoop doesn't contain all of the info phonescoop uses and doesn't include all of the cities in their link. Verizon is likely planning a decent expansion, but I wouldn't take phonescoop's word for it. Total up the new markets from the verizon lte pr page to get a better feel for the month. However they will likely keep announcing cities until close to the 21st.

    On a good note, Verizon is expanding LTE from Fort Hall up to Shelley in Southeastern Idaho, no Pocatello yet though. That really makes no sense, Blackfoot will have it, but Pocatello, being MUCH bigger (Pocatello and Idaho Falls are the biggest and 2nd biggest cities in Idaho outside of Boise) will not. Fort Hall is just outside Pocatello too, why they don't just do Pocatello at the same time is beyond me.

    Yeah how about their home territory. NJ us the most populous state per square mile from what I hear, so far its been slow. Don't think they even had Basking Ridge where there hq is located at listed as 4g yet.

    I'm guessing that may be the reason why, highly populated areas often have a lot of NIMBY's, so rolling out service is much harder than in rural and suburban areas. Here in our rural area (Mendocino County, Northwestern California) we are still waiting on LTE from Verizon, AT&T and U.S. Cellular.

    Wish they would improve it in my area of FL. Outside its fine, but go in any home or building and you end up back on 3G. This is with pretty much all the phones I've tested/reviewed, though some (like Motorola) do hold onto 4G longer when going into a structure, but will eventually drop to 3G. Makes me think the 4G signal just isn't strong enough to penetrate a structure, as service screen shows -96dBm inside and -89dBm outside.
    => Read my reviews for the Samsung Droid Charge, HTC ThunderBolt, and Casio G'zOne Commando.

    => VX8000 at Disney World:Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

    No more roll outs for So Cal either, how disapointting, especially for paying 10x more than Tmobile for me

    Aside from sheer coverage, lets hope that Verizon can keep up with capacity and speeds as more users get on board. I don't care how many people their LTE network covers if its overloaded and slow.

    Even though I live in Lansing, I am downright excited about this rollout. It's the first Michigan launch north of Saginaw (save for Big Rapids, which is literally nothing more than a few LTE panels on a single water tower), which kinda marks the northern border of the more populated areas of Michigan. Traverse City, while a big tourist trap (They even mentioned the Cherry Festival in the press release), is definitely a smaller place compared to most of the other Michigan markets. This launch shows how far Verizon's LTE rollout really has come so far.
