Simple Mobile is on T-Mobile network, so the coverage will be different and the phone needs to be unlocked.

So the OP doesn't use/want/need data. Get whatever prepaid service on AT&T network. There is H20 Mobile, Red Pocket Mobile, etc, etc. Obviously AT&T doesn't want you as a customer, but there are plenty of customers of AT&T who will take your business.
