My employees used i205's, non-flip which were a decent size and weight. The Duraplus is much heavier and larger, they just carry it since it's really too heavy and bulky for a belt clip.

We also had a couple i670's which are a normal sized flip phone, not too big or small and decent sized keypad to dial in low light or while driving. The photos on Sprint's site do not do justice for the size of any of these new Kyocera phones.

My personal phone was a i335. I'm not a fan of flip phones and the i335 was slim enough to comfortably put in your pocket. Just because we use the PTT feature, doesn't mean everyone needs a mil-spec, Dura-whatever brick for a phone.

They DO work good, I said in my post the actual service/reception from the towers was lacking, which isn't the units fault.

Here's a pic comparing the sizes. Keep in mind, the i205 and i670's are NOT small phones.

    put the h t t p, etc in front...

If you are looking for a nylon fixed clip case for the Plus phones these folks have them: http://www.caseguys.net/

Part number KY3601. This case is not on the website. You have to call or email them.

I will be testing 1XRTT roaming again with Sprint Engineer and will check if SDC works in EVDO roam areas. I have verified SDC does work in Sprint EVDO REV O areas in Oregon.

The optimization of Vision Now Base Station software continues to cause SDC system problems. Approximately 20 percent of our area is less than -84dBm. The SDC receiver sensitvity is -106dBm. Telephone voice call sensitivty is about -110dBm. Therefore Sprint telephone service will work better in poor signal areas than SDC.

On 09/05/12 Sprint replaced 25 DuraMax's with DuraXT's. We are in a two week evaluation period to determine whether we will stay with Sprint or change to another carrier.
How have things been working out?

That is very good to hear, I've been seeing more and more commercials for Sprint Direct Connect as of late.

Wow, great to hear. They've come a long way since SDC launched about a year ago now.

So is SDC finally a superior product to Nextel's iDEN? The coverage boost alone must be a nice thing to have - the coverage must be fantastic vs. Nextel.

SDC has come a long way. There are still base station software issues which caused a nationwide outage on 9/18 and 9/19. Kyocera equipment failures are rare. DuraXT units have better transmit and receive audio than DuraMax units even with firmware 12.02sp upgrade according to my users. 1XRTT and EVDO roaming capabilities are still being tested.

After testing 25 Kyocera DuraXT's for a month, Sprint has agreed to buy back our remaing 89 Kyocera DuraMax's and replace them with DuraXT's at no charge (except for sales tax). In addition, Sprint issued a one time service credit of 5K. Even with latest firmware upgarades, DuraMax's were outperformed by DuraXT's according to my users.

That's very good news, it sounds more and more like Sprint is committed to the new Direct Connect platform. It's also nice to see they stepped up and took the right course with you're situation swapping out all units to DuraXT's which by all accounts is the correct move.

    Congrats!

    For all you with DuraXTs-

I've noticed a problem with my XTs.

When listening to a DC call there is a very loud chirp that sounds at the end of the transmission. If you have the speaker next to your ear with the cover closed it is ear piercing.

Is there any way to disable or lower the volume?

Sorry to be off-topic.I have a Sanyo/Kyocera Taho rugged flip(predecessor to Dura*).I have a problem that hasn't been resolved. When in an app like Opera Mini,my text window does not offer predictive text as an option, and fonts are real small. This isn't a problem with messaging or using native browser.
Seeing as Dura phones are related to mine, can one of you check to see if this is a problem on your phone(not many Taho's were sold from 2010-11 and no Taho owners answered my posts on this issue).
    Thanks

Sprint has released a firmware upgrade for these phones:

Also-Does anyone have a solution for the ear piercing chirp that comes from the external speaker at the end of receiving a DC call with the cover closed?

It seems to me the volume for the chirp is controlled by the "Playback Volume" setting. Try turning that down. (Its under the "Settings" - "Volume" menu)
