H2O activation outside of USA???

    Reposted from other forum...

I know H2O Wireless doesn't roam outside the USA, but I want to at least activate my account from Canada before I cross the US border. Is that going to be OK? Will my iPhone pick up the H2O signal once I cross, or do I have to be within signal for the activation to succeed?

    Thx.

    Mark,

You'll need to be within the home coverage area of AT&T Mobility's network to activate an H2O SIM. If you get close enough to reach an AT&T cell tower near the border, it would work.

If you can't physically get to or near the states to activate the SIM yourself, you could mail it to a friend or relative with a GSM phone who's located in the states to do it for you and then mail it back.

Why would he need to be in an AT&T Mobility network area in order to open a line with H20?
All he's doing is activating a sim card and that sim card will be activated whether you're in planet Mars, USA, Canada or if you're phone is off, on, or in the ocean... it doesn't matter!

You can activate a sim with H2O with your phone completely powered off...it makes no difference. If you turn it on outside the USA then it just won't work but the moment you enter USA it will pick up service.
H2O really don't care where you're located and will activate the sim on the spot...whether you can use it or not depends on if you're in a service area with AT&T Mobility - there is no specific timeframe in which the phone must be on for activation to go through...it goes through independent of the phone!

He can indeed "open" his account and request SIM activation online from anywhere in the world, but as you so politely described, the actual process of initializing the SIM won't occur outside the home network.

The OP asked if he can activate outside US and then when he arrives in the US will the sim work and the answer is YES.
The OP didn't ask if the initializing of the sim would occur outside the home network, he doesn't care for that...he just needs to arrive in the US and have a working sim for his phone.

I've had this done for family a bunch of times and it's no problem!
Activated a sim that was still sealed and unopened then when they landed in the US I gave them the sim and the moment they put the sim in their unlocked phone the service was working! Doesn't matter where the sim is at the time of activation, it can be below a river in the pacific ocean and activation would still go through.

I'll be more then happy to clarify any questions you might have. The SIM card can definitely be activated while you are away in
Canada, as long as you are picking up signal and recharge once you have entered the U.S you should be okay. Also the phone must be unblocked.
