A ST sim card can only ever have one number assigned to it. You can change your number any time you want, but you will need a new SIM card each time you change it.

you could try out the service by buying a cheap phone and a service card. there are one or two you can get for free with puchase. sort of depends on what network you want.
i bought a $70 phone and tried out verizon service. it helped me. i had never used verizon
It is less expensive to buy two SIM cards than one phone plus another SIM card later. Since the Original Poster is a current AT&T Mobility customer it is probable that he will want to use his own phone with a Bring Your Own Device SIM card.

thanks for the reading kreskin. an example of a free w418g and a month of service is cheaper than a sim and a month of service. often, as was my case i knew how my signal was with three carriers but not verizon so i spent on a phone and a months of service and i was then educated.
they even have a few free cdma phone now that would work long enough to complete a month of service so he does have some low cost options to test drive a network in his area.
Why would someone purchase a Straight Talk CDMA phone or a Straight Talk GSM phone to test the network when one already has an AT&T phone with which to do so? I would think that one would want to test the network with the phone they intend to use rather than a throwaway phone. Reception is dependent upon both the phone you use and the network availability.

I am trying out the Proclaim on Verizon. Do I let the service run out and then port my number in?
You could. However, in that case I probably would try to get a hold of the Facebook support people, call them, and see if they can just port your number in and move your existing service time to your new number. It is possible. I wouldn't call regular CS for that, it would be highly likely they would mess it up or tell you it is not possible. Good luck.
