slow data on 3g?

I've noticed for the past few months that my data speeds with my Mesmerize have plummeted. A lot of times, I'll be trying to use data with the phone (like on the market or browsing) and the 3g indicator wont show any up or down-stream activity. Sometimes, it'll just get stuck in "D"ormant and ill have to exit whatever I'm trying to do and go back to it to get it to reinitialize... and sometimes, that doesn't even work.

I've rooted it, and before this, I was experimenting with rom's and such, but after I reverted back to stock, it did work fine for awhile.

Also, just today, I decided to pit my phone against my girlfriend's new Straight-Talk phone on speedtest.net's app... Her phone's data measured about 4 times faster than mine...

So, either there's something wrong with my phone/the network, or USCC is **** and I'm going to cancel.

Any ideas from the guru's out there? Anything I can try to either troubleshoot this more in depth or fix it? I'd even be willing to try flashing a different rom/modem on here, if I could get a good recommendation (I wasn't able to find a decent, stable, fully functional one)

I don't know what's up either, but the data speeds for the past ~4-6 months have been getting worse and worse. I started noticing it a couple months ago when streaming my music started taking forever (or just didn't work at all). I'm in the Chicagoland area (western suburbs). I am rooted as well, but I can't see why that would have anything to do with the network. I can't put up with this anymore since I depend on mobile data (I work out of my car mostly), so I'll be out the door as soon as my contract is up.

If you're seeing slow speeds in only one area (perhaps from a single tower), then it might be worth calling it in. As for me, my speeds are just terrible all over the suburbs, and I wonder what other people think who live in the same area as me.

I live in southern WV and yes 3G data speed are tanking here also. When I first moved over to USCC from AT$T, the data speeds were really good. But just in the last 3 months, data speed have been in steady decline. AT$T runs circles around USCC here now with HSPA+. Maybe USCC is picking up new subscribers bailing from AT$T due to over inflated prices. So far none of the BIG 3 can compare to USCC's 5 Gig / month data.

USCC has a net loss of customers every single quarter, and they don't offer the 5gig/month plan anymore (unless you want to pay AT&T prices).

I imagine it's just more and more of their current subscribers switching to smartphones. Maybe that's why they pretty much lowered the cap from 5gig to 2gig.

I am in Iowa and have noticed the same thing...slow data speeds. I have the electrify and my boyfriend has mesmerize and his is actually faster at times than mine.

I live a little further west than you do, and it's not really on one single tower. I run speedtests occasionally when I'm waiting for other things to happen whereever I happen to be, and it seems no matter where I am, it's just slow (like, around 100kbps downstream slow, and slower).

What exactly can USCC CS/TS do for this remotely? And if they can fix it remotely, what's to say they didn't **** up this **** on purpose for ***** and giggles?

General CS can do nothing, you really think that CS has the ability to align and alter tower signals and output? You'd need to get them to send an engineer out, which they will do if they have a few reports of issues.

Most likely it's a capacity thing. Fun fact, did you know to increase data capacity on a tower often an additional DOM card is needed for the backhaul in the tower... and that can cost $20,000+ for one tower? Or someone I know who worked for Sprint told me.

I'm in the Eastern-panhandle of WV. i also noticed data speed have been in steady decline for the past few months. I have the Electrify.

Well, Tritium is a vital part of modern Nuclear Weapons, like the W88 Warhead, used on the Trident II D-5 SLBM carried by our Ohio Class Subs aka Boomers and 4 Vanguard Subs of the Royal Navy. Anyway, sorry to ramble, back to the phone stuff

Back on topic, I am hearing from my family here that USCC's 3G EVDO speeds have taken a nosedive as well, we don't have LTE with them yet either. Speaking of LTE, the nearest LTE to me (Redwood Valley, Mendocino County in NW CA) with Verizon is 110 miles south in San Rafael, the nearest LTE with AT&T is 120 miles south in San Francisco and the nearest LTE with USCC is a long ways east in the Midwest.

VZ is supposedly going to turn LTE on up here sometime this year, with USCC to follow in 2013, I don't have any schedule for AT&T but we do have HSPA+ w/EB (I get 6-10 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up with it on my Galaxy Note i717) with them in many areas here.

I found today that I was getting nearly 10x as fast a connection with my HTC Desire as I was with an EVO 4G LTE on Sprint. Sitting next to each other and ran 5 tests. Each ended with similar results.

Downloads of 1200 kbps on USC and 144 kbps on Sprint (do not remember exact numbers).

Sprint won out by about 100 kbps during the upload portion.

I also started the Angry Birds download on both phones at the same time and was playing it on the Desire before the EVO was at 25%

This was in Arnold MO, just south of St. Louis.

I was very surprised at these results personally.

I literally couldn't even stream my Google Music today on my commute home. It would just load and load and load, so I did a speedtest and it registered 107kbps down. I nearly broke down and went to a T-Mobile store but I'm gonna try to bite the bullet for another month or two.

Yea in the Milwaukee area I typically get between 500kb and 2.2 MB depending on the area. Though in the city itself is typically on the lower end. That said my buddy with sprint is always 100kb or lower on Sprint in Milwaukee.

I hope things get better for you in your area. I rarely stream music while driving because I usually listen to talk radio.

But tonight I streamed some Pandora on the way home with, thankfully, no real issues.
