Tmobile engineers are starting to make me mad

At my billing location, I have experienced slow data on my nexus one for the past 1.5 years and now that i got the gs2 in december its the same issues at my billing location.

One tower that serves my apartment in the back shows 4g but the backhaul is edge to umts like. Front of building on another tower gives 4g speeds. On the bad tower i used to get cross talk like 2 years ago.

Several calls to tech support and service requests as well as trouble tickets were filed. Every time the engineers report back that they dont see any issues and they close the tickets. Im getting pissed.

This time same issue. Im telling them that the backhaul is giving me edge speeds. Even with 4g showing. Speedtests show it.

    I want results.

I can definitely see why you would be getting angry. Some simple tests could easily tell that the backhaul is not sufficient to provide the 4G speeds that you are entitled to. They should stop making excuses and fix the issue.

If T-Mobile is going to use "4G" as their main selling point in their advertising, then they need to go out of their way to see that customers have 4G speeds.

It's a lack of spectrum/capacity for that tower, I'm positive of that.
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with LTE coverage

Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.

How? When the towers a block from each other have better backhaul. They need to fix it. I shouldnt be recommended to use wifi at my house. I use tmobile since its supposed to be faster than my dsl.

I had a more positive experience with T-Mobile. There was a tower down, so I gave them a day and then contacted them. I was told that there were no problems on their tower map, but the lady said that she would let the engineers know. 24 hours later the problem was fixed.

In your case the cellphone tower that you're using, probably has too many users and not enough backhaul.

I think the reason that they refuse to solve the problem is, because you might be the only one complaining. Other users in your area might not even notice the speed difference, just like in my area I was the only one that called about that cellphone tower being down.

You could always threaten to cancel your account if they don't fix the issue. You could request to speak to someone higher up at T-Mobile or if you know any other T-Mobile users in that area have them also call T-Mobile and complain.

Honestly though, I rarely see carriers do anything about these problems. I have a bunch of friends using Sprint and they're getting poor data speeds. They keep calling Sprint but nothing ever gets done. I have a buddy on AT&T and he called in about poor data speeds and dropped calls, only to be told that they don't see any problems with the network.

It's not always a backhaul issue. Most of the times especially in large cities and high traffic areas it is a lack of capacity i.e. Too many users on your cell sector and it is maxing out the avail. Spectrum which in most markets is at a max of 20MHz which results in slow speeds. Only solution is to add another spectrum carrier and with LTE around the corner that just probably is not going to happen. That's already reserved for use.

The issue is not the full nyc area. Its my local tower that covers my billing address.

I did speak to a supervisor. They said a second service request has to be filed before a business rep can assist. i had them file another one.

    I will wait and see.

Man. Back when I was on Sprint I would of been happy with your speeds. But you're right you should get what you pay for.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Each tower has sectors (usually 3 sectors), each sector services customers in the spectrum allotted (so - 20MHzx3, but you are only on one sector at a time) and obviously the one serving your house is being hammered by a large number of other users. The 20MHz allotted provide 42Mbps HSPA+ as a maximum if backhaul permits which in NYC it probably does - if there are a lot of users on any given sector speeds slow and only get slower. Phone calls being placed also reduce network speed. In areas of congestion even with a DC-HSPA phone you will get as poor speeds as everyone else. There are a few cell towers in Las Vegas that get 100Kbps or less all day long due to the fact that T-Mobile can't add any more AWS spectrum to relieve congestion and the fact that it is an extremely busy area, and no other cell towers are in the area to relieve the congestion which is the only way to do so. That or take out the existing antenna array and put in a 4 5 or 6 sector design which would utilize spectrum more efficiently. (20x4 5 or 6 to serve everyone in the area).

How come the good tower that serves the front of my building gives excellent speeds and isnt relieving the bad towers congestion?

On that tower I get speeds near 10mbps.

It's a back haul on that tower. I have the same problem and also called csr too many times, but engineers don't want to upgrade the tower, because it's not a busy area. They seem to upgrade busy areas like those with buildings. Those areas with private house and less stores are not important for engineers, and they don't care about those towers. Does matter how many times we call and complain or threaten to cancel the service. They know we won't cancel the service, because they'll charge us etf.
