The screen goes off on my Note when in a call, how do I get it to light back up?

The screen goes off on my Note when in a call, how do I get it to light back up (or stay lit) so I can use the dial pad? My Androids screen display setting is set to 10 minutes, but while in a call it's about 1 minute.
The price of a smartphone is $650. That's not gonna persist.
    Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola
Rolfe Winkler of the Wall Street Journal also thinks that these fighting words from Woodside should have “executives at Samsung shaking in their boots.” He also thinks that “folks at Apple should also be sweating.”

Go to Settings>Call>uncheck "Turn on proximity sensor"

That will keep the screen on during the entire call. If you don't want to do that, just take the phone away from your ear and hit the home button. That will light up the screen so you can choose the dial pad during the call.

Thanks, I'll uncheck (turn off) the proximity sensor and see what that does. The only time I hold the phone to my head is when I answer a call without BT, so I don't need to use the dial pad. It's when taking a call (using BT and my car dock) that I need to keep the call alive by hitting the screen before it disconnects.

And the home button is soft so hitting it does nothing.
