No iPhone for me, at least not any time soon. I have an iPod Touch and an Optimus Elite, and I'm considering getting rid of the iPod because my phone now fills the functions it used to serve. (Mainly waiting on Bejeweled Blitz for Android - you listening, PopCap?? )

I'm all about making the most of my resources and don't see a $550/$650 phone fitting into that picture, especially when the one I just bought for $129 does the job quite nicely.

HOWEVER, I will be trying to convince friends who happen to have iPhone bills over $100 that they should at least consider it. Saving $50 a month would see you break even in 13 months, at most. ** The trick will be a) passing up the new iPhone in that time period and b) letting them use my VM phone so they can see how VM coverage is.

** This doesn't even take into account what you would get for selling your previous iPhone.
If they are paying over $100/mo. they would save $75+ right? then the Virgin Mobile iPhone would be free in 4-5 months right? The difference in the Virgin Mobile iPhone cost minus their current iPhone cost(if they sell it) divided by their monthly savings would show how many months until it's free.

If I was an iPhone user unless I desired and had LTE coverage, this would have to be at least an option. The possibility of saving $70-$80/mo. and being able to recoup money from previous iPhone by selling it would negate any up front cost of the phone or a lock down to carrier.

This is assuming trial service is satisfactory if not then it's not an option.

    $000.00 Virgin Mobile iPhone cost
    $000.00 - current iPhone (sold)
    --------

$000.00 divided by monthly savings $00.00 = # of months until free
    Sprint: $40.99 - $73.00 per month
Sensorly Maps: Sprint LTE active in 26 States

Conservatively, I was thinking they would choose the $50 ($55) unlimited VM level. Maybe they'd go to 1200 minutes and that would change the breakeven point to 11 months. I can't see an iphone user who spends over $100 being satisfied with 300 minutes ($30). If they latter applies, you'd be a fool not to get this phone (assuming decent VM coverage).

Edit: now that I think about it, if you have an iphone with no company discount and a text package, that's at least $85 right? Going from 85 to 45 (1200 minutes) would also pay for the phone in 16 months (not even including the profits from selling your phone).

Again, VM coverage is always the key.

I just bought the Evo V 4G, so there's no chance I'll be jumping to an iPhone. The buy-in price of $650 is too steep and I can't stand using iTunes, so this wasn't going to happen for a myriad of reasons.

That's why I think we could see a bunch of returns in early July. If people spend $650 on a phone but can't get Siri to give them a name of a nearby pizza parlor (let alone watch a YouTube video) I'm willing to bet a decent number of those folks will be promptly asking for a refund.

I can't. Not until Sprint fixes its data issues where I am.

I'm spoiled by bare minimum speeds of 1.5Mbps down on Verizon 3G.

I'm really not sure why you say this. I can stream YT videos and google maps and/or poynt anything on all of my old EVDO VM phones. Hell even my old Shuttle would stream YT no problem. So I'm not sure where your "it won't work at all" mentality is coming from. The iPhone had data issues with Sprint when it was first released last year but it has been fixed by now and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't perform at least as well as every other EVDO phone VM currently has data transfer wise. If VM coverage is so crappy, why are any of you here?

I can easily stream Netflix on my OV with no problem. However, I do acknowledge that coverage is local so everyone's experience can differ.

You could even get a bunch of people who have good coverage in their home zipcode but don't in other areas they frequent.

I wouldn't be suprised to see returns. Not at all.

I think its the other way around: I think they want iPhone fiends to adopt prepaid because it's cheaper long term.

No, but it gives me an option if I decide to bail the contract I have with Sprint......as long as I get another ESN on my account before I go default. Then again, VM's reception is not 1/4th as good than Sprint's postpaid in my house.

VZW 4g LTE. Super fast. It's way faster than my wifi.

It has to be your device.

A prepaid iPhone (or even the EVO) should experience the same reception as a postpaid Sprint model.

No, because Sprint post-paid has reciprocal roaming with Verizon. VM phones only talk to Sprint towers.

    Really?

Show me where it was mentioned about roaming. It wasn't. BTW, Sprints roaming agreement with Verizon is not reciprocal.

Different handsets have different signal quality. Compare a Photon against a Triumph, it's night and day.
