This is kinda like verizon ipad redux. That didn't work in the etown area although an iOS update may have fixed 3g roaming issues from what I hear. I switched to an at&t ipad because i needed it to work and don't know if the verizon extended 3g roaming issues ever got worked out for sure with Bluegrass cellular.

But I learned from that experience that Verizon won't answer these questions or no one really knows what's going on. It's hard enough to find a thread about it on the net involving extended 3g/4g issues. I can't really see switching to Verizon until i see Bluegrass Cellular actually come out with LTE and all this rural LTE program talk actually gets realized. And even then, you'd have to kinda conduct a trial with a verizon phone to see if things are working right in that it does roam properly in these areas. It does kind of suck to base buying decisions around it.

From my experience, my Verizon iPad 3 did not start working here on Pioneer's 3G network until Pioneer launched their LTEiRA system. That's also when the fully reciprocal roaming agreement went into effect between them and Verizon. Prior to Pioneer launching LTE, I couldn't use my iPad on Pioneer's system at all, and now it works just fine, displaying Extended 3G here at home where they haven't turned LTE on yet, or LTE in areas where it is turned on.

It's the same with Verizon phones. Until LTE gets turned on in an LTE in Rural America partner's territory, Verizon has no native system in place and therefore won't work unless the partners had an existing 3G roaming agreement in place. Once LTE is turned on, each partner's customers' phones will work completely on both the local and Verizon's nationwide system, meaning the local user won't have to worry about roaming much at all any more.

Would prepaid native Verizon-only customers then also get coverage there?
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

Yep, it's full and complete roaming, both for Verizon customers in all the LTEiRA areas, and vice versa. Verizon gets the blank areas filled in where they have spectrum but never built anything, and the local people get to roam anywhere on Verizon's nationwide network.

That's pretty good for prepaid too, like the new Straight Talk Android phone on Verizon. It sounds like most roaming areas for Verizon will be LTEiRA, except for USCC roaming in places like Downeast Maine, where Verizon seems to be too lazy to bother building out a network (they have at least 10mhz of PCS up there).

Right, technically you'll be roaming, but it's treated as native, a very good deal for both companies' customers. My iPad indicates Verizon LTE in the display when I am using it in Pioneer's LTE area, so I guess the branding sticks with Verizon, or maybe thats just for data use. Pioneer doesn't have any LTE phones for sale, so there's no way yet of checking what they show. Their iPhone 4S's display Pioneer 3G. I would imagine all this will be the same in Blluegrass's area once they get their LTE up & running.
