POST HERE if ST has Throttled you,and share your experience

The reason i posted this thread is because of how long and off track the other thread (sort of) regarding this is getting. Thread "has straight talk been throttling me"? or close to that.

Bottom line, were trying to guage what happened when you were throttled and what your experience was.

To be more specific, were interested in knowing if you have been one of the people ST has throttled, and then you waited out the month, and then they UNthrottled you, without you calling or anything..

Ive not seen many posts where the people being throttled got unthrottled as soon as there month of punishment was up.

We are trying to figure out if this happens to all that are throttled, or some,so please share.

If you need help on how to call ST go to the thread "St phone #'s that helped me get UNthrottled" we have had success with this but it requires knowing what to do,and which #'s to call and a lot of patience.

Wondering if this will ALWAYS require a call. Or just sometimes

Any throttling experience and how you dealt with it will work too.

This is important! We need your support to come up with a plan of action!!!
I WAS TOLD BY MODERATORS TO CENSOR THIS,BECAUSE I HAVE AN OPPINION.
HOWARDS FORUMS IS GOING TO BAN OPPINIONS SOON,SO GET YOURS OUT THERE WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

My longgg post in the other throttled thread was spot on I covered every part of my experience. Since then I haven't been streaming and just using the web for surfing and programs. No problems since. Even if you stream and get throttled I bet if you follow the steps in the previous thread especially the being nice part they'll always reinstate you. Happy hunting.

Well I have some long winded posts on here about being throttled too. ST told me I was crazy and in no way had I been throttled by them and that if AT&T did so they would have to notify them they did it. So 2 months pass and I quit using the net almost completely and I was still throttled. I traded out sims and every phone I tried would speed test fine with their sim card and put mine in it and bam snail crawl. I called and changed numbers and that didn't help either so eventually I got a new account all together and whatdoya know I'm not throttled on my iPhone any longer. So long story short apparently ST can throttle you and so can AT&T and if AT&T does it calling ST doesn't help and neither does stopping using data. The throttle will not be removed you have to get a new account. BTW I was throttled for less than 2 GB usage.

Oops, I didn't see this thread, but I've deleted the other one I've made.

Straight Talk has recently severely throttled me. For the few months I've had ST, I got a steady 40kBps. Now near the beginning of this month I've been throttled to 15kBps. Now thats kilobytes not kilobits.

I think its because I tethered and was playing xbox live for a short while just to see if it would work. I racked up about 80 megs until I stopped for my 100 megabyte daily limit I've set
Sometimes I go over my limit but some days I don't even get close and I haven't gone much over 2gb a month.

Hopefully when July hits I wont be throttled anymore but if I am, I guess ill have to make some calls.

Dude ST didn't even know I was throttled. I had to test identical phones side by side and then swap sims to make them understand what happened when customers got throttled. So I waited till my card was due and reupped and even changed numbers but I was still throttled and then I waited another month and still they kept my ticket open so after last month I just opened a new account and as soon as I did BINGO. Not throttled at all. From my experience I think they just throttled me in my normal area because I went 2 hours away and my speed was fine. Maybe it was a fluke who knows..

    Man this is upsetting...

The funny thing about this,is one of Start Talks new commercials..

It boasts of course the unlimeted data etc etc and "feel richer"

Especially the one where the girl is getting ready to host the party, and she feels richer because she can play Pandora streaming music, when her guests arrive..

Well guess what? Ive had ST agents tell me you shouldnt be using streaming anything!

Thevyve said that this is for basic surfing only....

Very frustrating this all is for me,even though i had my throttle fixed...

3 of 4 of my friends who have st got throttled in April/May

    It pisses me off!

Ive been with them since they started, and they throttle me? I barely use data....

The very worst is that i go out and but a brand new Samsung skyrocket because ST phones selection isnt the best, and THEN they decide to throttle! NOT when i had the Lg or any of the number of other phones ive had...

Its basic bait & switch, just over a longer period of time...

Im in sales as well, this just kills me.

They throttled me today. I'll be honest I did use my phone during the tropical storm for 5 days without wifi. I used 2914mb and have 4 days left. I posted on Facebook support and said I was throttled and wanted it fixed. Took them about a hour and 4 emails. I was honest about my usage and they knew I was using an Android on my e71 sim. They didn't care.

So heres a guy who is saying he got throttled and it only took an hour and 4 facebook emails to get UNthrottled apparently..

This is by far the very first case of anything like this i have seen.Definitely the exception. But very good to know that next time they throttle me theres a chance it will only be an hour and a few emails to get back to reg!

Great news for a change!..Congratulations! Wish that was the case for the 99.9999% rest of us......

If you dont mind me asking, which phone number did you call, the regular ST #? If it was a different #,may i ask where you got it?

Secondly,i wanted to know if you were speaking with a "manager" or not, which department, and what did you say? What did they say? Did they admit to throttling you? Do you beleive that it was the honesty that helped you? Ive heard of people being straight up with them, and that actually helping.(not that it wouldnt) But if you could enlighten us with your method, you could really help a lot of people.Thank you

Being throttled is when your cell phone company reduces your data speeds.

I'm not sure if I've been throttled or not. My speeds during the day range from anywhere around 750 to 70 Kbps. I have periods where my phone shows 4 bars, and Dolphin is loading a page, but the refresh bar is frozen and the data indicator shows no upload or download. It usually takes several seconds for transfer to start, and sometimes I end up cycling through airplane mode. My ping times are horrible, 500 to 600 ms. The thing that confuses me is at night my speeds jump almost back to normal, 2+ Mbps.

If it were throtling, wouldn't the speeds be consistantly bad? Is it just tower congestion?

Notice how during the entire commercial the phone is on Wi-Fi.

After all Straight Talk lets you stream all you want and they even "give you permission to use your phone for truly unlimited internet when you're on your own Wi-Fi network."

Correct, this does look like insufficient backhaul or capacity for the given tower, especially since you said that speeds improve during the night.

If throttling was an issue, you would constantly see low speeds. Also, unless I'm mistaken throttled speeds are below 700 kbps.

What you can do is run a speed test on another tower and see how your speeds are then.

When I was throttled I had edge download speeds with 3G ping times. Pings remained the same with 3G enabled (around 125) but data slowed consistently to 144kbps.

And the dude that used almost 3gb and got throttled, with 4 days left, that's not a bad number to get throttled at. That's like 3.6GB a month. That's a safe bet to get throttled. Alls you gotta do it call, be nice, make up an excuse like something was downloading in the background without me knowing and boom, they'll bump you back up
