I've explained this many times and there is some that get the throttle lifted easily if ST was the one that issued it. But for others like myself those tactics didn't work because ST didn't throttle us.... AT&T did. This is the reason that ST hasn't given the customers any clear cut indication of how much data is Ok. It all depends on how much ST's customers effect at&t's network. In some areas ST customers who use 2gb per month fall into AT&T's top 5% of users as I did so we get throttled by AT&T whereas in other areas where the network is more up to date ST users like myself can go past the 2gb mark and not be penalized because we wouldn't fall into at&t's top 5%.
So basically you'll be fine so long as you stay under AT&T's radar and not get into their top 5% because once you do you won't get a warning from ST or AT&T you just get throttled permanently.
I still don't understand how they can share throttling responsibility. Has this been confirmed ? The few people I talked to at ST before getting the last rep that took off the throttle, also said my account looked fine, and that there was no throttling being done.
So if you're going by the rep that told you that you weren't throttled by ST, but by AT&T, could be lying :/
I simply used the small amount of cognitive ability that I possess -- and that was the conclusion. I talked to ST reps for 2 months most were upper level mgrs and they insisted that they didnt have me throttled. They said that AT&T is supposed to contact them before they throttle the ST customers but they obviously didn't. Then after I activated a new account my speeds were back to normal so it's pretty clear IMO.
I thought I was getting throttled (even tho I use very little data, mostly on wifi) but it seems to me on speedtest.net app you have to run the app a few times ..first time I got .5 down and then after about 3 times trying (4am mind you) I got about 7 down and 2 up. I'm starting to believe the speedtest.net app downloads its ads and etc during the initial test. ALSO beware that with my 3rd test, I burned 15mb! So if some of you are following the 100mbs a day rule thingy, a few of these in conjunction with your daily data use will put you over the top!
You may want to try www[dot]dslreports[dot]com/stest (sorry, not allowed by HoFo to post a link yet since I'm new). I generally choose the Mobile browser Speed and Latency Test, but there are others. Other HoFo posters say that these tests are more accurate than speedtest.net. While I can't vouch for that, I can say that, in my experience, they definitely use up less data!
FYI,
There is a user on xda-developers forum who used to be a "tech/sales/fraud/CustSvc support for ST/NET10/TF", and is now on "AT&T tech" (quote/unquote).
He's been answering a lot of ST questions.
He may possibly be able to shed some light on the throttling subject.

"If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed"
Have you considered the possibility that your experience was not the result of a deliberate throttle, but the result of some kind of error or incompetence on the part of ST's or AT&T's staff? How about a defect with your SIM?
Given my experience with ST, this seems far more likely than the possibility that ST or AT&T have an impossible to lift throttle.

I mean, with respect to everyone's posts, anything is possible with straight talk. What I ascertained was that they definitely lie to you, about anything, throttle, network speeds...everything. But there are some who eventually tell the truth. I know that they log calls because some of the reps verified my calls in. They probably would go so far as to wait til they see a bunch of attempts and then be more helpful. Never know, all their calls are obviously outsourced to the lowest quality reps so they have the time to play games. Waiting for an outburst so they can deny service....lol
My data got throttled I called the "managers " number was on the phone for 3 hours with no fix . Submitted a ticket on st fb fixed in 15 minutes
Heyy I miss this thread, lol. Yeah that sounds right. Usually it takes a few phone calls and a buttery, sweet attitude to finally get to the right person who wants to actually lift the throttle. Like your case, I've heard lots of success for getting things resolved on the Facebook support site.
How was your usage pre throttling ?I'm curious
Has anyone with a Samsung proclaim been throttled? Or any Verizon plans for that matter?
