If you're only calling a few numbers ld, consider switching to a My5 or My10 plan with Canada wide calling.

Two very different topics I know, but they're related. So far my plan is as follows
200 Weekday Minutes
Unlimited Eve & Wknd Minutes
6pm Early Evening Calling
6gb Data $30
2500txt $5
CID $8
Total Estimated Monthly Service Fee*:$70.15
Big thing is LD, I SHOULD have it. I overlooked this when getting this plan, my lifestyle changed and now I'm racking up $10-20 a month in additional charges. I only started this new plan 8 months ago, so I know by the 3 year term end I'll have spent well over the $500 cancellation fee, not to mention I have a new 4s which I could sell to recoup most of the loss by cancelling. I don't feel like renewing for yet another 3 years simply to add-on $5/month $0.10 long distance, is it even worth sticking with rogers? I thought I was getting a good deal with this plan..little did I know...

All the telcos are the same, except Wind and Mobilicity, both of which are limiting. And the latter I found to have become quite problematic out here in North Vancouver. I don't see the point of canceling, honestly.
I agree with the MY5/MY10 suggestion if that works for your usage. It doesn't look like you have a huge amount of LD usage, but it adds up quickly so a bucket of Long Distance minutes might be better for you.
There should still be LD packages you can get from retentions (100-1000 minutes) for less than your overage costs (say $5-10 depending on what kind of deal you can get). I would suggest that you call in and ask about the cancellation policy. They will ask you why you are thinking about cancelling and you can honestly explain that it is because the monthly long distance charges put you over your budget. Personally, I find long distance charges particularly frustrating when they are incoming calls and you are outside your local calling area.
Anyway, you should get transferred to someone in Customer Relations (aka Retentions) who might be able to help you find a plan that suits your usage better or add some long distance minutes to help you out. Adding some LD minutes to your current plan should NOT require you to extend your contract.
I didn't thinking adding an add-on, or even for that matter changing your plan, forced you to renew/start a 3-year contract
It depends. Historically, Rogers' loved to renew contracts for the smallest of changes, often without telling the customer the renewal was occurring. It was dirty, but they did it often. These days that scummy practice is biting them in the *** a bit, since a renew puts you on the new cancellation policy. if you didn't take a hardware subsidy with the renewal, then your cancelation fee with the new contract is only $12.50. Obviously Rogers is not a fan of this, so they are taking steps to only 'allow' renewals when you take a subsidy. You may encounter a rep who was thoroughly indoctrinated enough with the old renewal scam policy that they still renew you for a small change, but it is becoming less common.
Sometimes you can benefit from a company's own bad behavior.

You're not going to be forced to renew for an addon, only for a plan change, but then again, most of their plans are available on no term now, so again, no need to renew.
^No need, but some old habits are hard to break. These days it's sometimes in your best interests to allow them to exercise those bad habits.
Could actually be worthwhile to suggest a renewal when they offer the add-on to get their juices flowing a little at the thought of better numbers. Cultivating their greed and baser instincts might be fun to watch.
But then you're just being a jerk.
I always try to be honest, even if the other party is trying to screw me, doesn't mean I have to be an a$$ about it too.
Can't get through the day without a personal insult or two, eh?
Anyhoo, no, I don't see it as being a jerk. If someone if trying to take advantage of me or to do me harm, and can't see that it will instead be to my benefit, then I see no problem with giving them enough rope to hang themselves. Personal responsibility is a fine thing and it goes both ways. Actions have consequences. Having indoctrinated their staff with such behaviors for so long, they have no one to blame but themselves.
Would splitting a family plan into 2 separate plans renew it? And am I more likely to get a renewal on a more expensive plan or a cheaper plan? Thanks.
Cool, thanks. We're just paying WAY too much each month and need either a much more reasonable plan or to port out if they can't do that.
