Interesting. Last I looked they will not activate a prepaid plan unless you put money on it right away.

I'm coming to Canada in about ten days - here's how I plan to use Fido, I'd like some feedback as to whether what I am thinking works.
I ordered a Fido SIM off of ebay and have already activated it online, with the unlimited incoming daily plan ($1 per day.) There is now $0 on the card.
When I arrive in Canada, I go and buy a Fido $10 top up card and apply it to the account. At that point my account will be debited the $1 for the first day of unlimited incoming, and for the monthly 911 fee.
If I fire up the browser on my Android smart phone, I will get a page offering me various data packages, including the $1 for 10 MB in 24 hours plan.
I have the Mobilevoip app on my phone, which uses the data connection to trigger a call to the cellphone and the number I wish to call. Other than the $1 per day, I should then pay no per minute call charges.
Any flaws in the above plan?
And, one additional question. I see that the $1 per day data add-on is per 24 hour period. Is the $1 per day charge for unlimited incoming per calendar day or per 24 hours (this might make a difference as to whether I can do it all for the $10 top up or have to buy another $10)?
Thanks.
[btw, I called Fido late last night and got the dumbest recorded message - "we are closed, please call back during opening hours" or something to that effect, without providing the information as to what those opening hours are.]

^Yes Fido will let you activate with no voucher
It is a dumb recording. The call centre answers five time zones and sometimes detects the wrong zone so even if you know the hours it may refuse you.
