are cell phones addicting?

I say this with a bit of jest cause I have worked in the celluar industry for years and years and what makes me laugh is that someone has lets say the evo which is a great phone yet when the Iphone came out, they had to have it and make silly threats like if I cannot upgrade I am going to leave and I will tell that is their decision not mine or you can buy it outright for the price which they do not want to do.

My question is, why does one need the latest and greatest phone when they have a phone that will do what they want and wont work any better than the new one? To me, it seems like addiction to me.

the way customers will practically salivate over the phone when a new phone comes out and I see they have the latest and greatest current phone, one must ask are you ok? and most of the time these customers can barely afford to pay their bills.

To me a smart phone is not a necessarity and I am not afraid to tell a customer that and further tell them get a phone to keep in touch with your loved ones and pay your bills. And stop downloading android apps and tell me you did not do that...when we all know that their is a process to downloading them. but back to the question.

I see quite a few people looked at my questions and I do have my answers because in my eyes silence is golden and no response gives the answer anyway.
