It took me a couple of hours because I ran into some minor problems. I had some trouble installing ADB because it refused to detect my JDK installation. (Hint: Set JAVA_HOME to the location of the JDK install, not the location of java.exe)

Additionally one of the linked files was posted on Megaupload.com which is no longer available. I had to hunt around to figure out which PD15IMG.zip file to use. I used a 2.3.4 PD15IMG.zip file from the thread below, even though my stock Panache was Android 2.3.3.

Also, when it came to actually flashing the new ROM, the ROM I chose (AwesomeICS) didn't have clear instructions on how to flash it (it assumes you know how to use ClockworkMod). Had to read instructions on how to flash Cyanogen Mod using ClockworkMod Recovery and then substituted the AwesomeICS files in its place.

In general though, I'd say it's a little trickier than jailbreaking an iPhone, although you don't have to do iPhone's "hold home for 30 sec, hold and release power button for 30 sec" thing. If you have used Linux or Windows command prompt, you should be okay.

Now that I've gone through the process once, I'm much more comfortable with it, and would be happy to offer tips. Nearly everything went according to their script for me, so I might not be very helpful if you encounter major issues.

Can't wait for a ICS/Sense 4.0 ROM to hit with a functioning camera, which will probably be my next ROM. Currently, AwesomeICS has only stock vanilla, but the camera works.

For those of you not wishing to root your device, I have to add that simply doing a factory reset helped with sluggish-response issues for my Panache. I have done that twice in the past 6 months.

Okay cool thank you very much. May attempt to do it tonight. I don't use any of the sense features so it is just a drain on my battery and processor.

Have been looking forward to rooting it since I got it. But have always lucked out on getting the near impossible phones to root.

Will let you know how it goes

Yup. I even have the "bad eMMC" chip. I haven't seen many reports of people with issues though... I suspect it's more like "higher risk of hard bricking", but not "highly likely to brick".

Funny this thread is still trucking along.

I have a window mount for my Panache. I was streaming the Tune In Radio App and had the HTC Car Panel GPS on, directing me to a clients house as I was heading west on Broadway in Vancouver, when the phone restarted itself without anyone touching it. Any ideas? I ruled out Voodoo!

Mobilicity frees Canadian cellular smartphone users - or at least - till one of the big 3 gobbles them up!

Happened to me regularly, maybe once a week. I noticed it when it's mounted to my windshield too, but it seems to happen when it was in my pocket, sleeping at night, etc. 100% speculation, but I wonder if it's related to the bad eMMC.

Haven't seen it occurring under ICS yet, but it's only been a few days. Plus, my splash screen got replaced with the T-Mobile myTouch 4G one, so I don't get the "Mobilicity" boot-up sound anymore.

Endlessdayz may want to consider that risk before he jumps in, that's all

I bought my HTC Panache in January and it died in February. 4 weeks of usage, 6 weeks later and I get my replacement. Again, it dies in approximately 4 weeks. Waiting for my 2nd replacement, but I just bought an Amaze 2 weeks ago and I have had absolutely no issues with it.

Since both your Panaches died within 4 weeks, shouldn't you wait until you've had the Amaze for at least 4 weeks instead of 2?

Well, both of my Panaches exhibited problems throughout those 4 weeks each. While my Amaze has been problem-free so far.

Well... I went to one store, where they told me that processing the warranty repair would cost $25, which sounded higher than the number I thought it was supposed to be... went somewhere else, paid $10...

The guy said that the warranty replacement people. (GNP, I believe?) were getting lots of Panache warranty requests - no surprise there. I pointed out that many people would just be happy getting, say, a $100 credit and being rid of their Panaches, but as it's a separate company replacing the phones, I doubt they really care.

I would rather sell it for cash instead of receiving a credit. A credit would take a while to use up.

Yep i am aware of the risk. Will look at everything and think about if i wish to attempt it. (I am rather tech savy)

I would love to do it but if i don't think i can do it without breaking my phone then i won't.

Do not want to end up buying another new phone.

I meant like, a $100 credit towards a new phone.

I don't think you understand the problem. It's not a matter of "if you do it correctly, congratulations."
That particular phone carries an inherent hardware issue that will blow up a certain percentage of the time regardless of whether you do everything right or not.
