Considering as of this moment there IS no iPad mini, (unless you count the ipod, lol!) and the iphone 5 has already been released (the iphone 4S was the 5th iphone) and considering the Nano Sim was only JUST decided upon two weeks ago, I don't think you have to worry about comatibility between a product that doesn't exist and another that is already out and using the Micro Sim!

Now, since the next time an iPad is going to come out is going to be next spring, you have some time to consider it, and since the next iphone (the 6th iphone) will be coming around September/October (keeping in mind the Nano sim was JUST approved two weeks ago) and the phone has already been finalized, built and who knows, probably in production as we speak, it's unlikely that this iPhone will make use of it either since there would be very little benefit to changing the SIM card tray in a phone that was already built since all the components are already in there. Again, before two weeks ago, there were two competing designs for the next smaller Sim card and before the Nano Sim was chosen, it could have gone either way, so Apple wouldn't have designed a phone around a Sim card that they would have to just replace anyway, so for this years phone they would have stuck with the Micro Sim and then NEXT year made their devices use the new standard.

If I remember correctly, the iPad 1 was the first with the Micro Sim, then came the iPhone 4, so likely the iPad coming out in 2013 will have the Nano Sim, then the iPhone that comes out in the fall of that year will have it then as well. And ever since it came out, I know *I* certainly pined for an even smaller SIM thinking that the Micro Sim wasn't already ridiculously tiny as it was, I'm so glad they'll soon be making Sims that are even EASIER to lose than the Micro Sim. One day I hope they make Sim cards so small they are undetectable to the naked eye so you never actually know if you got it in the phone or if you even have one in the first place. THAT'LL be progress!

The nano SIM can be adapted to a micro SIM tray, just like a micro SIM can be adopted to a mini SIM tray. Not an issue.

Since the metallic grid on the SIM is the same it stands to reason people can come up with a mini to Nano SIM cutter or micro to Nano SIM cutter.

It has been discussed in many places that simply cutting the SIM will not work. The nano SIM is also thinner so you will have to sand it down while risking destroying it.

Discussed, but not proven. Until someone actually tries, it's all hearsay.
