AT&T in San Francisco

Newyork4me, have you been to Southern Illinois since ATNI and AT&T terminated off-market roaming? I'm guessing AT&T lost a good amount of coverage due to that.

Of course Alltel left over here is a horrible company but that's beside the point.

Haven't been to Southern IL outside of major roads (that are already covered by AT&T).

But there is a difference in what you experienced vs. what this thread is about.

You are calling out Verizon's performance during events. This thread is about how AT&T performs all the time. Verizon could have brought in some COW's and all would have been fine. AT&T's problem in SF is day-in and day-out. They need to make some major network improvements, while chances are Verizon is doing alright in your area for the most part.

I had 8.7Mbps down in parts of SF closer to the Embarcadero.
/Ghiardhelli, and around 1Mbps by Market St at 5-6pm

I've definitely hit 7-8 mbps on some indoor DAS before in the city.

Here's the Caltrain station at 4th and King at 6:40pm, very crowded. Its clearly download congested.

The GSM GNex is what silentjudge is using there. It doesn't do LTE.

Data wasn't even working at all during the LGBT Celebration in SF (Market St). I couldn't connect to data on HSPA+.

Worked fine a few blocks away from the celebration but still had issues with % of data connections going through (aka successful connection rate). When it did work/connect, I was able to get 4mbps speedtests.

I think they even had charger stations up there. Whats the use of that if your phone won't work.

I was in SF 31 May - 4 June. The service was up and down... and at times no service at all.

I was there for a couple of days - June 21-22nd and July 3rd. Speed around the immediate downtown area hit 'at best' 1Mbps down. A couple of blocks away and I was hitting 4Mbps.
Out of curiosity, why are you using a 'Chicago, IL' site for a speed test. San Fran area is a local gateway (from what I can hack out of network traces), and Palo Alto (Fiber Internet Center) and even San Luis Obispo (Charter Cable) is much more 'Local'. Charter / Palo Alto has given me ~80ms in the SF area (vs ~110 in SoCal due to extra distance). Nothing against Chicago, however, I'd like to hit whatever is closest/fastest to the gateway with the most capacity (typically Charter).

Furthest I hit was Marin City. I have hit ~10Mbps on 580, and 12Mbps/3Mbps in Gorman (I-5 SoCal).

As a side note - calls were a bit choppy Monday morning in San Fran/Embarcadero and Mission street area (took a call while riding in a cab back to the hotel) using Samsung SII Galaxy. I've never had choppy 3G voice before.
