To clarify, I haven't actually tried a Mobilicity Amaze but when the same issue is presenting itself on Amaze phones sold by other carriers, the issue isn't the result of the carrier customization but rather something deeper that more than likely affects all variants (since the software for each carrier's phone isn't started from scratch and each version surely shares most of the programming code).

Can you try it again for users of the Mobilicity version but while paying close attention to make sure that all the conditions below are met?
-flash must be enabled ("auto" or "on" is fine)
-must use side shutter button to take picture
-must hold down side shutter down HALF WAY until you hear the AUTO FOCUS BEEP sound, and then press side shutter button the rest of the way down
-flash must activate itself/go off/fire while the picture is being taken

If the Mobilicity version is affected, you will get a blank, black screen instead of your picture's image.

I can confirm that this bug is present in the Mobilicity version as well. It sometimes fixes itself, and if you take photos in portrait, it seems to work. Somewhat annoyed at this bug, but ICS is WAY better than GB, and so I would still recommend the update.

Personally, I don't find any advantages whatsoever to ICS over Gingerbread and I believe part of the ICS movement was created simply so that manufacturers could develop new phone models that customers would feel that they had to upgrade to. There's nothing that I use that doesn't work in Gingerbread and I find the ICS update for this phone to be nothing more than menus being moved around.

Either way, with this bug, I've narrowed it down to it happening far more often when taking indoor pictures.

Yes the icecream update seems not to bring to.much to my HTC amaze. Nevertheless if you needa better camera go for Nokia.n8. I have one and the camera is awsome. Unfortunately you cannot use it in the same time
