I'm guessing others were waiting for the iphone 5 aswell. So here is the question not answered anywhere. I currently have 2 iPhone 4 on Unlimted Data/700 mins plan. I will be keeping my Unlimted plan so plan on paying retail on all future phones. I did sneak in upgrading to 2 Samsung Galaxy 3's which I will sell on Ebay.
I'll continue to use iphone 4 untill 5 comes out. My question is even when paying retail will there be a problem switching from an 3G activated phone to LTE? Also, Do I need to activate the Samsung phones when I get them or can I just sell them sealed?

There might be. There might not be. I don't think anyone knows yet for certain. The risk that there will be a problem is really the only reason I don't have a 4/4s right now :\.

They haven't announced anything for sure, but I'd bet that they'll allow it.
My reason is that Verizon has done a pretty good job of announcing policies with a few weeks notice before they go into effect.
Current policy allows you to upgrade from a 3G plan to LTE without any problems if you have unlimited data. There has been no mention of change so I think they'll keep it the same.
When dealing with Verizon, they'll do whatever it takes to make the most money. The most profitable way is to keep a bunch of users all at a fixed rate with no subsidy. If you force ppl to make a change to a data plan, those ppl off contract will probably leave. And 99% of the ppl probably make the unlimited data plans profitable for Verizon given how much data they use.
I spoke with a Verizon rep & Manager regarding this very issue. If you pay full retail for the next iPhone, you'll keep your unlimited data moving from 3g to 4g. The reason this is, is that in their system the unlimited data is the same feature whether you're on 3g or 4g. I just used my upgrade to the 4s so I can get a better resale value in a few months.

You will have to pay full retail price if you have 3G unlimited data now cause a switch to a 4G device will trigger a change to shared data after the 28th

You're talking about two separate things there--buying a subsidized phone and switching from a 3G to 4G phone. The OP already knows that buying a subsidized phone after the 28th will force him onto a new data plan. The question--which remains to be answered--is will switching from a 3G to 4G device (unsubsidized) cause the switch.

What's your source? Do you have a link or other substantiating information?
Wow very confusing. I wish we could be sure. If the only way to make it work would be to upgrade to 4G now then I would have no choice but to use the Samsung Galaxy 3 untill the iphone comes out and then sell the Samsung as Used. But if 3g to 4g makes no difference on account I'd just sell it new and keep my iphone 4 till iphone 5 comes out.
Can't decide which way to go untill i'm sure I would lose my account with keeping 3g.
I too would like to see Rolltide's sources as I'm looking at Verizon's leaked internal slides to employees and it states that the switch will be allowed; just no subsidies. Going off history Verizon is really good with allowing customers to stay on grandfathered plans as long as they don't make drastic changes. And last time I checked, changing your phone is not a drastic change as phones need to be changed every so often as they become obsolete or just stop working.
I'll be sticking with my iPhone 4 even after the cutoff date for upgrades... if they tell me I can't move to 4G without changing my plan even having bought the device at full retail I'll simply change carriers. No crying over spilled milk, I'm not guaranteed anything and I understand that. It's just business...

Verizon has done it before. When the LG Voyager came out, activating the phone forced you onto a new plan. Users went from MOU data to mandatory data plans. Verizon later did it with smartphones when the BB Pearl came out. Smartphone users from Nov 2007 on were forced onto data plans, rather than PAYG data.
Neither of these changes were related to buying a subsidized phone; they were both triggered by the actual device being activated.
Verizon's Twitter support account has said a few times that upgrading from 3G to 4G will still allow you to keep unlimited.
Verizon's twitter support account has contradicted itself, so it's not a reliable source. Just in the last couple days they have posted that new users will be forced onto the new shared plans, then later posted that new customers will still be allowed to use the current tiered plans after the 28th.
