The subsidy would require the entire account to switch to the new plan. I don't see this as a viable alternative anymore...

The problem with that is I don't see how Verizon can force 4 other lines that are currently in contract to change. That would be a serious issue for the account holder if 1 of the lines wants to upgrade with discounts and the rest don't. Then again, I can also see the 5th line leaving the family plan becoming an individual plan so they can have tiered data. That actually works out to more money for Verizon.

No changes to your plan as an existing customer will not force you to change to Share Everything. The question is though for new customers. There is back and forth whether or not new customers will have the option of the old tiered plans or Share Everything only.

If you have a family member who is on the 65+ plan, and who is happy keeping their flip phone, that is another option for upgrades.

Buy a new smartphone using Grampa's upgrade, add the obligatory data plan, then switch him back to his dumbphone, remove the data plan, and activate the new phone on your account.

Voila, $650 smartphone for only $200.

Share Everything plan is a family plan. Individual plans can still choose a tiered plan.
