Simple mobile 3G speeds

Hello I have my own cell phone store I sell and do activations for Simple Mobile H2O Wireless And Red Pocket. Recently I have been doing a lot of activations for Simple Mobile and from experience I can tell you unlocked iphones don`t do well on Simple Mobile speeds are TERRIBLE yes I know about the frequencies are not compatible like a t-mobile phone. So I have been selling a lot of the T-Mobile Samsung Exhibit 4G phones very nice phones and I am using Simple Mobile as the carrier and I`m thinking since these are T-Mobile phones speeds should be at least somewhat faster than being on a Iphone boy was I wrong. Had 1 of my customers come in with her Iphone on Simple and she is complaning of not being able to open facebook and sometimes Pandora ran a speed test on her phone and she is getting 97KBPS a lot of the web sites she go on will not even open up unless it`s on WIFI. Another customer has the Exhibit 4g and he gets 119 KBPS he can`t down load youtube videos he has no wifi where he lives. I just feel bad that I`m selling this CRAP and there speeds are AWFULL. Has anyone heard of any speed changes from Simple they really need to get there CRAP together

I see why this crap is unlimited no one wants to stay on there network for anytime there service SUCKS !!!

This whole post has me baffled as into how you can even run a successful business with the way you presented your post here. You sound like an angry customer that wants free ****

Agreed. In my store we warn of the speed differences. I flat out deny that YouTube or pandora work on the $40 plan. Makes my life easier.

it`s not that I have not told folks I have let them know of the slow speeds like I said it just sucks that they are running such slow speeds. did not want to start a flame war just commenting on the slow speeds that they have and 10 dollars more is there $ 50 dollar plan did not know that they had this I will check in the AM. and about having free service I can care less about simple mobile service thats why I have H2O Wireless on my ATRIX 2.

I just switched to simple mobile from crappy Consumer Cellular (after being a longtime Verizon user) last month. It wasn't too bad. I'm getting about 230 kbps down and 320 up in Houston. Of course that's not good for streaming. But I only stream at home or whenever I can get a decent wifi connection.

I just bought the highest cost plan -- and it made No Difference in my case. I've never seen Simple Mobile speeds over 200Kbps... In fact, I've Never even seen 200Kbps. It's lucky if it delivers 119Kbps.

I spoke to their Tech Support, and they said it's because I'm using my own phones, and not one that is on their list of supported phones. Seemed like a very convenient answer, but I'll take them at their word.

I have 3 new phones, and one of them WAS on their list, but it wouldn't work, and they said it was "an error" for that one to be on their list.
The 2 main phones I've tried it with were the Samsung Galaxy Note (unlocked Int'l version), and the Asus Padfone. So far the results were equally slow ... And I've also tried Straight Talk's service, and it was even Slower. btw, I live/work in a major metro area with tons of towers everywhere, so that shouldn't be an issue. (and I've got another daily use phone which can get 3G/4G just fine).

Thanks for mentioning H20 .... Guess I'll be trying them next.
Just saw another thread where someone said they're getting .8 to 2.0mbps (download) from the AT&T Go Phone service. So will be trying that too.

Are you serious? Where are you located? What phone?

I'm in Houston using a mytouch 4g. I get around 230-240 on average on the $40 plan. I have NEVER seen less than 232 kbps down and 274 up (well at least since I downloaded the speedtest app a few days ago).

Devices: I've used a Galaxy Note & Asus Padfone.. Both are capable of at least 3G speeds
Location: From north Orange County, Ca to L.A.

We've got dozens of little cities here in Southern California, so it's not like I can just list a single large city... But I've used it everywhere from Fullerton, CA all the way to LAX (the Airport). and have NEVER seen anything near 200Kbps.

For an example, I was in the city of Cerritos over the weekend, and had 157Kbps download... then I happened to drive about 3 miles away, and got 15Kbps .... How Ridiculous.

This weekend I might drive into downtown L.A., just to see what kind of reception it gets there.
(btw, my Sprint phone get's fine 3G reception fine in all of these places... granted that's on CDMA, but it's just to demonstrate that I'm not trying to use these things in the boonies or anything).

Simple Mobile probably continues to label its underperforming $40 plan as "3g" because it is just that in a few select/and or lucky markets. The near universal standard to expect from this plan is a max speed of 119k. No more. There are tricks and workarounds like forcing to EDGE, using Wifi and Opera, etc but it is still 2Gish more then 3G. This plan is best for feature phones or older 2G only smartphones like the original iphone. Or for people with unlocked Att devices which will perform at 2g only on Tmobile 3g/4g frequenices until they "refarm" their 1900 mhz 2gsm frequency to 3g/hspa plus (in a move to support the iphone), a maneuver that is only available in a few experimental markets at this point and not a universal solution.

I'd get the higher priced plans for Tmobile 3G devices and get an Att mvno for any Att 3G or above phone (H20, Red Pocket, Jolt, Air Voice, etc). They have gotten away with these less then high speeds for a while and I don't think it's going to change anytime soon...

Then there's Straight talk for five bucks more...

I activated my $40 Simple Mobile plan yesterday..and have tested speeds about 10 times so far. I am consistently getting 242kbps download..and between 265 and 275 kbps upload speeds. I'm in North NJ if it makes a difference. My phone is a Galaxy Nexus
