Help me pimp out my Triumph

So I decided to get the Triumph. Found it on craigslist for $130 and it came with an extra battery and a silicon case. I read that the GPS is not very good but there is an APP to fix it. Can someone help me out with making the phone the best it can be? I don't want to root it just yet. I still need to activate it and I hope that goes well. Going to go to virginmobile.com and follow the instructions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There is no real fix for the bad GPS radio that is in the Triumph. GPS fix and other apps like them work in the background to get locks on the satilites but the phone still takes forever and a day to get the lock.
If you get a phone that works, they are not bad with the exception of the GPS.
My first phone was a POS but the warranty replacement is far better.

Oh really? I read that there were apps that fixed it. How do I get all my settings from chomp onto this phone? It's not picking up any of my apps. Where in the world are they? I went to google play and can't even find my history of apps I downloaded. This is lame.

Root your phones and use Titanium backup.

Correction the GPS can be fixed!

The problem is you have to use a "Sharp" rom which breaks "MMS", everything else works fine. It is a "Froyo" rom but also improved my battery life. Take a look at Android Forums as they have a huge Triumph section.

With the stock rom it can't. With a third party rom maybe, but not every one can do that and feel comfortable in doing it. I deal with my stock triumph because I am fairly sure I would brick the thing trying to put a new third party rom on it.
Also, last I heard, with a TPR if installed before the phone is activated you are then unable to activate the service on the phone.
This may not be the case now but it was in the past.
Any way it goes, simply adding a app to the phone will not fix the GPS.

For chomp. If you are talking about chompsms do a Google search for the app if you can't find it in the play store. It is available for android. You will have to side load the app if it is not in the PS.

Put in your acct info and you should be good.
May have to do some on device customization to get it the way you like it.

Correct no app will fix slugish GPS I know I have tried everything.

It may seem daunting but Triumphs love to be flashed. I know of folks have brought who them back from bad soft bricks and am unware of complete bricks, so go for it!

Yes always best to activate before you mod, but one assumes you have read plenty before you would attempt this.

Anyone with a Triumph should try the "Sharp" rom to see how good the phone could have been.

If you're not into rooting or flashing ROMs, the simplest work-around for the GPS I've discovered is a free app called GPS Status. This isn't a cure-all per se, but it did improve the lock time for the GPS when attempting to use Google Maps/Navigation.

The procedure is fairly simple. Just download the GPS Status app and run it before using any GPS-based application. It will tell you when lock-on has been acquired, and there's also a feature you can enable which displays the elapsed time it took for securing a fix.

Before I discovered this app, it would take 10-15 minutes to get my position simply using Google Maps. With GPS Status, that time goes down to about 90 seconds "cold" and 10 seconds "warm" -- depending on the last instance you were using the GPS.

I am a delivery driver by trade, so I was using the Triumph's GPS on a regular basis. This particular app helped speed things along with using Google's navigation products.

^^That was one of the first apps I downloaded. I have not tried it out yet but I am sure it works fine.

Overall, I am liking the triumph. There is a ton of memory on this phone and the bigger screen makes things a lot easier and I love how fast it is. Some negatives I have noticed though with this phone is that the signal is not as strong as it was with my Optimus V. Also, for some reason, the phone is not connected to Wi-fi or 3g when it's not unlocked. For example, I take it out of my pocket to play words with friends or draw something or get on the net but I have to wait like 5 seconds or so for it to hook up to Wi-fi. It hooks up to 3g first and then connects to Wi-fi. Anyway to fix this? I have quick settings downloaded and that app automatically switches between Wi-fi and 3g and I never had this problem with the Optimus V. The phone has also restarted on me 3 times but 2 of those times I was playing draw something and the other time I was playing Words with friends so maybe it just glitched. My Optimus V's screen is so small by comparison and am pretty happy so far with the Triumph.

Android sleeps both WiFi and 3g to save power. You can probably set both to always on but enjoy your 3hours of up time.

I am having problems with this phone and draw something. It restarts a lot when I use it and I can't draw circles smoothly. They are all jagged. I hope I don't have a defective screen. How do I enable push notifications? It says my device does not support them.

I also am wondering how I can get the dictionary enabled when I am texting. You know how it will come up with a bunch of words and you don't need to type everything out. It's not there for the Triumph. I will keep messing with it.
