Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Gsm Nation and Gamestop Mobile are going to be two mvno newbies who may be a part of a new possible trend of offshoots of existing related businesses. I think Gsm nation will do especially well if they offer the Virgin Mobile like heavy usage data/mms plans and ala carte talk/text plans along with byod. If Tmo has the 1900 mhz channel going for iphone 3g capability for data speeds, that will be even better. Att has a much more developed mvno system but hopefully Tmo starts pumping out new ones to replace Simple Mobile (which got sold to Tracfone/America Movil though Tmo still provides the infrastructure).
Sprint mvnos are still the most numerous but unless they allow them to have wimax/4g like their prepaid divisions Boost/Virgin, they will be left behind with their biggest weakpoint: little to no byod...
Any update on this? Is GSM Nation dead? I liked the idea of $33 250 mins and 2GB of data.
If they are still planning this, then they should make it public somewhere. Since nothing has been mentioned, there is the possibility that they might have just scrapped the whole idea.
Gamestop didn't do anything so it makes some sense that Gsm Nation isn't going to either. Oh well.
Platinumtel is providing some info on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/platinumtel?fref=ts
I just asked a gsmnation rep in their live chat:

Is gigaom.com/2012/06/15/meet-gsm-nation-an-mvno-selling-every-smartphone still happening at some point in the future? I can't find any info anywhere. Thanks!
Andrew
Yes sir, but it will be somewhere around Q4 of this year.
Naturally the procedure is a long drawn out process it takes about a year or so to launch and that is after the carrier just accepts the application which is a 4-5 month process
Me
good to know, I'll check back and keep using my monthly T-mobile plan until then. Thanks!
Andrew
you and me both sir.
Me
do you mind if I post this (here)
Andrew
Well sir I dont mind but please note my word cannot be taken as official.
Me
absolutely, but knowing it's about a year out should help GSM mvno searchers. Thanks again!
Andrew
Yes absolutely sir.
Its not been dropped that is for sure
I think they're stalling. A lot of new Tmobile mvnos have popped in way faster then a year. Tmobile wants as many mvno partners on the ground up and running asap so they have probably expediated the process. By the time they come out with their plans, the landscape for prepaid wireless would have most likely changed again. We'll see.
Mobile TV coming this summer!
Verizon/Apple itablet coming this Fall?
