Why does VERIZON block everything on iPhone? Spotify, Airplay. IS there a solution
I used to be on verizon years ago then went to AT&T for iphone and came back to Verizon last December with Iphone 4S to be on the same account with my wife.
The first thing that happened is I had SPOTIFY app. For those who don't know Spotify is app, which you download on your computer and on your iphone. For $10 a month you have access to millions of songs which you can stream or save on your iphone. With AT&T, in my BMW, I could control the playlists, the music, could fast forward, rewind, go to next song, go to a different playlist, or via my car's control, which was VERY SAFE. My car's display showed the name of the artist and the song, and the minutes/seconds playing.
When I went to verizon everything ended. Now I must control Spotify from my phone only and nothing is displayed by my car. I have to use the iphone to change everything which is dangerous.
Now with AIRPLAY. For those who don't know you can print off Iphone and Ipad to airplay-certified printers. Today I got one of these printers - HP 1025nw. And sure enough. My iphone cannot find the printer and cannot print to it. my old Generation 1 IPAD (AT&T) immediately found it and printed on it.
Why does Verizon block everything? Is there a solution? I am ready to jailbreak this thing but is that something that is there because it is a CDMA phone? I wish I had a Sprint Iphone to check.
How is this Verizon's fault? An app is an app is an app no matter the carrier(other than carrier specific apps sponsored by the carrier only). Maybe Spotify was updated to not support the vehicle controls anymore(doubtful though). Was it just the iPod app you used with the ATT iPhone or was it Spotify? How does it connect to the car, by bluetooth or by usb cable? Do you use iTunes Match? If you connect to the car using bluetooth and happen to be using iTunes Match, try disabling iTunes Match and then remove and re-pair the bluetooth links with all your devices, then test to see if the vehicle controls function again. If it works again, you may have to choose to live without either the controls or the iTunes Match feature.
My Verizon iPhone 4S prints just fine to my Airprint printer... dunno what your problem is, you must not be enabling wifi on the phone and connecting to the network the printer is on, so Airprint can find the printer or you have a VLAN on your router blocking access to the printer. Most likely your printer needs updated firmware or drivers for Windows or Mac to support Airprint. You can enable Airprint for almost any printer if it is shared by a host computer using a Airprint Activator for Windows or Mac
You should really call Apple and ask for help or to report a possible bug.

Spotify connects by a cable to the car. It worked with ATT Iphone and it worked with ATT Ipad.
My iphone 4s is on the same network of course, and I am using an Apple router. It is on the same network as IPAD, which is my home wireless network. No Airprint Printers found. But since you say that your Verizon iphone prints to Airprint printer, I will check my settings again of course. Thank you
Thank you again. Just checked and my iphone was connected to a guest network. Once I connected to a home network again, the problem was solved. Thank you again!!!! Great forums here.
Yeah guest network SSID's in most modern routers have VLAN segregation on by default to protect the main SSID and sometimes even put each wireless client into their own VLAN(client isolation) to protect others using the same SSID which would have also prevented the phone from seeing the printer had it been using the guest SSID as well. Most of the routers that impose these functions, also feature settings to disable them.
I think the car needs to either use bluetooth or both a audio cable as well as usb for the controls to function.
There are others who recently complained in Spotify's forums of loss of vehicle controls in the app after updating, try looking to see if you have a older IPA of the app in the recycle bin for Windows or try Time Machine on the Mac to see if you can recover a older version.
i used the mobile spotify app when it was first released and i can tell you that on an at&t iphone it was buggy and i could never use the car controls to control the phone

This is 1 of the most irrational posts I have ever seen on any forum.
This is clearly not VZW's fault, but the limitation lies with the device and its operating system, connectivity outside of cellular voice/txt/data has absolutely nothing 2 do with verizon. No 1 is blocking everything, except maybe apple, which had been threatening 3rd party developer that sell content subscription like spotify, that they will need 2 pay the 30%, or be kicked off their ecosystem. I don't know if they followed thru on their threat.
If anything, you should look into any compatibility issue of your new device to your car and printer. If that is not an issue, the look 2 possibly the new version of spotify having issues with ios5's IPC service. If that has no issue then its likely that Apple has done something to degrade the functionality/performance of third party apps that deliver content....
I'd be curious to know if the recent update fixed the issue. Thinkin about paying for Spotify Premium, but not being able to use it in the car is kinda a dealbreaker...
just use openvpn/guizmovpn if verizon is blocking it
