CA, sorry about that. My response was to Sam73065 instead. My error.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

    Sarcasm is a fine art...

It's not a matter of if you win or lose, it's how you assign the blame

Most folks who are fearful of such an occurrence are not likely to encounter such results. We all should be vigilant to protect our privacy and clearly there will continue to be such an option, granted the consumer needs to contact CS to enable it.

I do recall having to read the CPNI disclosure to customers before offering any additional At&t services/features that I wasn't specifically asked about. The overwhelming majority of consumers would simply reply, "yeah, yeah, yeah" or "whatever" when I went into the script.
My concern is privacy and not being bothered by CSR's forced to ask if I'd like a shake for a $1 more with my meal or whatever they're trying to sell me. Deny it if you will, but the more people who are allowed access to your private information, the greater the opportunity for misuse or loss. So there are plenty of valid concerns against companies being allowed to freely share your personal information, both the increased likelihood of misuse as well as the simple pestering of the customer, who is not interested in be upsold.

So I have been getting spam emails from AT&T lately. I login to the site and it seems there everything is opted out. Call customer support, will not bother with such a joke, straight to BBB resolution process. And AT&T calls me says everything seems ok. They call me back and tell me:

When you out out of AT&T spam it is only for 3 years, so because it expired you need to opt out again.

How to do it? Unknown, AT&T resolved it for me.

Example AT&T Spam Subject: See your myAT&T account and device how-tos
