    StraightTalk BYOP vs E71 Speedtest

I want to see everyone's speedtest on their Android/iPhone using the standard method via the nokia e71 sim card and also now the new method using the BYOP sim card.

I still have the nokia e71 phone in my closet and using the sim card in my iPhone 4 but would like to see if the BYOP guys are having better speeds ?

I got throttled last month May (the whole month) after using 2.1GB bandwidth 2 days before my month ended in april and I came back to normal speeds a few days after this month started because I complained to ST, opened a few tickets and stuff but sometimes I notice it being too slow never as responsive as before April 2012, and I been with them since April 2011. Where my speeds were 5-6mbps down constant it is now 2-4mbp down and it affects my GPS navigation app Waze when I use it, i notice it not following accurate like it was before and as well I can tell with normal uses when Wifi not enabled.

So the test results might look good but after May, my browsing, text, emails, apps (Facebook, Instagram, youtube, Waze, gps, etc) are not reflecting those speeds.

The reason of this thread is for me to know if I should let my month end and go with BYOP or keep using the e71 sim card.

Sometimes I get test results where the download shows 0.0 lol
Here are some speedtests from February to now

In my experience its the same service and same speeds, I converted from the E71 to the BYOD SIM over 5 months ago. Others on the BYOD SIM have been throttled too. So its not just E71 SIMs that get throttled. Based on what people have said, they know people SIM swap with the E71 SIM and a guy with an E71 SIM actually had a rep instruct him to check the APN settings. So they knew the SIM wasnt in an E71 but his own device.

I think you just need to take a step back and think about if ST is right for you. If you can't keep your usage below 2GB, it really isn't for you. I don't see ST being more lenient about data, I think if anything they will just start throttling everyone at 2GB. ( know theres people who slip by with 3GB or more, but I'm generalizing as thats not the norm)

The 0 kbps tests may just be tower congestion or something since your in NYC.

My E71 SIM in a Galaxy Note consistently gets almost 6M download and 1.1m upload. I'm out in the sticks near a major highway in Oregon. At work in Eugene OR my speeds are even greater. If I'm in the downtown area though they do drop some as I'm sure the cell sites are congested.

I get around 10 megs with a E71 SIM card in my area. There is no speed difference between the BYOD and E71 SIM.

If your getting 0 test results on your speed test app then it is the proxy causing that.
Delete your proxy settings and you will see the correct speeds.

Hes on an iPhone, it lacks the proxy field. (Does have the proxy field for MMS, but not regular APN)

The AT&T iPhone does have an APN proxy field, but it's hidden and normally can't be accessed by the user. It can be changed or deleted by using a custom APN created via Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility.

Aren't the sims for the Nokia sim swap and byod the same sim? Never noticed a difference between the two! Even cut my regular sim byod to micro size for my 4s and have no problems

Hmm if that's the case why do people need to jailbreak for MMS on the iPhone?

I am debating on whether to keep my nokia e71 sim on the iphone4 till the end of this month, then put the sim back on the e71 and sell it.. Buy the BYOP and sell my iphone4 and buy a Galaxy Nexus unlocked or iPhone 4s

Once you sell the phone and the buyer puts phone in their account. The sim is not usuable. From what I remember. Plus I don't think they will give a buyer a new sim unless you give them the sim that's tied to the phone!

What I would do is just keep the e71 since you already have it and use it as a backup phone
