I am the same way after buying the triumph and not being able to make a call. Makes me worried about buy another phone. And it not working when calling people as well as the brand giving up on fixing it, too.

I've encountered missing phone call and text not sent issue. What I did was "reactivate" (##CLEAR#) the phone. I recall doing something similar with OV (activate or airplane mode toggle) to get the phone back in working order. While it is annoying, it is not a deal breaker for me. I do like to see VM fix this though.
As for 4G, I live in NYC, NO PROBLEM! Great speed. I do noticed it's not very good moving from tower to tower. Unless I know I will be at a point for awhile, I usually don't use 4G. 3G, OTH, is so much better than with OV. I think this phone uses Sprint's servers. So instead of a Kansas server when I was using OV, EVO V uses Sprint NYC server. While the speeds are comparable, it is better due to ping time drop from about 1 second to less than 100 ms.

This is just another example of NOTHING being perfect. When the Triumph came out, everyone was complaining. I'm still using the Triumph which in my opinion is a GREAT phone. My girlfriend also has a Triumph that works GREAT. yes, there's the GPS problem... and that's NOT a problem for us.
The evo is going to have it's issues too. I ran out and got one on release day. I returned it because it was DEFECTIVE in TWO serious ways. The back cover was warped and would not close and the screen had the "white line" issue all around the middle edges. Totally unacceptable.
I hope VM fixes the issues with the evo. it is a nice phone.

Looks like you got a good triumph, and a bad evo.My evo doesn't have the "white lines" problem, and the backplate is fine. I would've returned mine too if i saw the problems you had. The only problem i have is the "radio resource interface shortage", which is being discussed in another thread. I guess the power button is also flimsy and hard to press, but there are some fixes for that.
I decided to return to VM after several experiences with AT&T MVNO's. AT&T is playing games with the companies leasing their system. So I purchased the EVO 4G and a Venture.
The EVO has a very annoying problem of the signal strength meter going from nothing to full bars and then settling down to about three bars. All the time I'm just holding it in one spot. This just cycles over and over. The Venture shows about 4 bars steady similar to my wifes Optimus V. j
While it's a very nice phone, to me this indicates a radio problem. It shouldn't be jumping all over the place. I'll try a reset, and then if that doesn't do it I'll return it for another one. I've only spotted one other report of this happening on other forums.
I had the Evo 4G and after having fought the radio problems in every way possible, even having rooted and tried numerous other ROMs, I flashed it back to 100% stock and returned it to shell out the extra money for an iphone 4s. I was a diehard Android fanboy, but I needed a phone that worked. Now I am wondering why I never gave the iphone a chance before - I'm actually enjoying it!

There's the "Other General Problems" message as well which will flash on the screen when the radio isn't fucntioning. This has caused me to miss numerous calls (including a very important one for a job interview) because the phone won't receive any signal whatsoever. Never once had this problem with the Triumph, Optimus, or Intercept. I hate to say it, but Virgin Mobile has released another big dud. This is simply unacceptable for a $300 phone.
If somebody had told me when the Evo was released that the screen was great, the processor was fast, the memory was abundant...but some text messages and phone calls might not go through, I would've passed on it for sure. After six weeks of dealing with this constant BS, I've finally decided to be honest about the situation:
The Evo 4G is a piece of crap on a garbage network. A phone should make/receive calls and send/receive texts 100% of the time. What a joke.
The worst part of all, is that Virgin Mobile won't address the problem. If you say something on their FB or Twitter, they respond as if it's the first time hearing about the issue. And then if you actually email them, they respond and tell you they've sent the information to the technical department.
Real professional, ignore the problem from people who spent $300 on a junk phone. Would've thought they'd learn from the Triumph.

Sucks that you guys are having so many issues, my phone is still running problem free for the most part.

There are times when it will work. In fact, there might've been a few days where I wasn't texting much, so everything seemed to be normal. However, I've noticed on days where I'm sending a bunch of messages, the success rate is about 50%-60% most times. Not good enough.
The most irritating thing is when people call you and it goes straight to voice mail. I've had this happen quite frequently, and have missed some important calls as a result. This shouldn't happen with a phone that cost $300.
When I returned my Evo V for the iPhone, the person at Best Buy said I was the 3rd person that day alone who returned one with the same problems, and that she was seeing on minimum 2 a day being returned for the same.
She said if this keeps up, every one they have sold will have been returned before too long.
lol, local tower gets an outage and 3 people rage quit.
Its clearly not an outage, because if that's the case, why would only Evo V's be getting returned? Why not One V's or iPhones?
By the looks of it, I think its safe to say that the phones really are hit or miss, probably by 50%..which really is a horrible statistic for a $300 phone to have nearly half of them be defective.
