Hi i'm using this blackberry without a data plan primarily for text and talk and do not need a data plan ( i know this means i can't use most apps.. i might get one later though ) but in the mean time how do i get gmail push notifications? right now i use the Browser to access my email, but is there an app i can use so i don't have to?
Thanks.

No push, but you could set up gmail to text you when new email arrives, it lets you know the sender, and the first line or so of the email....pretty kludgy, but would tell you when you need to check email for something important...
Seems like a waste to have a 9900 without a data plan tho...
Good luck
So a BBM/email plan is essentially a limited, or "restricted" BB data plan?
Secondly (I asked this elsewhere), if I only have BBM/email on my plan, does that mean I don't have to worry about turning off data while roaming, if I don't mind paying the relatively small roaming data charges for BBM and email?
Yes, pretty much
Data roaming rates are astronomical. Even small amounts of data can cost you a lot. Why not unlock your BB and use a prepaid SIM with data from a local carrier?Secondly (I asked this elsewhere), if I only have BBM/email on my plan, does that mean I don't have to worry about turning off data while roaming, if I don't mind paying the relatively small roaming data charges for BBM and email?
Only because I'm of the understanding the BBM using only a tiny amount of data, and if the trip is short, the small extra charges for roaming BBM would often be much less than the cost of prepaid SIM with data, assuming of course, the data use is limited to BBM. Hence my question on the BBM-only data plan.
SLightly OT: What happens when I take my T_Mobile sim card out of my 9780, BB data enabled (and on BES) and stick it into an unlocked, used Nokia Lumia 710 which I'm considering purchasing ?
Now I understand the SIM cards are different sizes but TMO will give you a free micro one.
TIA
Thank you sir. NO BBM I'm sure as that uses the 'PIN" delivery method.
You need data / BIS in order to receive email.
GMail works without data plan
