best cellphone with a better camera

    Hi everyone,

I recently discovered page plus and I am wanting to switch over.

I am looking for a phone that can:

    check email
has web capabilities (which wont get used often at all)
    has wifi capabilities
and a decent camera (hoping for at least 5 mega pixels).

I would love it to be somewhere around $100 to 125 and of course prefer new. Probably asking for too much?

I am likely going to either buy the $10 cards (I have minimal cell phone calls- maybe 30 min a month) and text less than 25 texts a month) or the $12 plan. Right now I have a verizon prepaid plan that costs $0.25 a min per call and $0.20 per text and $0.99 for 24 hours of 3g use. I have only used the 3g about 5 times in the last 2 years.

Any phone suggestions to be used on page plus? Thanks so much for the help!

You can purchase the Motorola Droid X or Samsung Fascinate from Cowboom for $79.99 right now. However, they are both pre-owned. http://www.cowboom.com/Mobile-Cellul...grid&keywords=

If you have to have a new device, the Palm Pixi Plus is a great device on Page Plus and is being sold on Amazon for $49.50 right now. Again, this doesn't meet all requirements considering the 2 MP camera. http://www.amazon.com/Palm-Pixi-Plus...palm+pixi+plus

    Alternatively, you can browse through eBay and detail your search results to what you are looking for. Here's a link ranging Verizon Android devices from $0 - $125: http://www.ebay.com/electronics/cell-phone-finder?minPrice=0&maxPrice=125&attrs={%22Carrier%2 2%3A{%22type%22%3A%22ASPECT%22%2C%22operator%22%3A %22OR%22%2C%22values%22%3A[%22Verizon%22]}}

I got pre-owned Droid X at cowboom for $80 for my wife and new Palm Pixi Plus $50 for me at amazon. If you want the camera, go with the Droid (8 MP). The Palm is only 2.0 MP. My wife is crazy about taking pictures so she wants high MP. For me, I don't care so the Palm is perfect - it's cheap.

Oh, the Droid is almost in new condition.

Newegg has the Palm Pixi Plus for $40.99 delivered as of this moment.

Just FYI, condition of Cowboom phones can vary greatly, but they have a good return policy.

Found on eBay new Droid for $95 with email, web, wifi, cam 5 MP.

Can't link since I'm new to the forum, but you can do a search on ebay for 290726322036.

That's the ebay listing item number.

I strongly recommend droid incredible 2.

droid x/x2 has a fine camera, but overall, it is a crappy phone. stock rom is laggy and it may take several seconds, up to 7 as I counted to open the camera app. Though customized roms are being developed, each one of them has some significant drawbacks, wifi, camera, etc...

On the other hand, my wife's DINC2 worked wonderfully, camera starts instantaneously, very snappy phone. Plus, if you are tired of Pageplus, you can even switch to a GSM provider since it is a global phone. Finally, as far as I know, ICS for DINC2 will be released officially.

I must disagree. The Droid X is a great phone, you must have just had one with problems. I would recommend using a different launcher (eg. Launcher Pro), but even that isn't really necessary. It just gives more options. I've been following posts about the Droid X ever since before I got mine back when they were new, and the vast majority of owners have been very happy with them.

That said, the Inc2 is a much newer phone, so obviously it has a faster processor, more ram, etc.

Well, you'd also need to move to another country for that to work. Global phones work on GSM carriers internationally, but inside the United States they only work on Verizon. You can't use the Inc2 on AT&T, T-Mobile, or other US GSM carriers.

I think they can be unlocked to use ATT, TM or 1 of their MVNOs.

Yes, they can. At least I've read that others have done this.

It really doesnt matter as the ONLY thing that really comes in where I live is Verizon. Since page plus uses the Verizon network I should be OK.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am going to keep my eyes out for a deal on one of the above. Forgive my newness to Droids- but is the A855 a bad choice? It seems to be the 1st droid based on my reading. I can get one new for $100. Is it a bad choice? I really dont need the phone for all of the Apps. Just a couple and wifi use. I also have a 4th gen Itouch I use all of the time.

well, I was comparing x2 with inc2 side by side, x2 has better hardware with much inferior performance. I assume x is even worse.

Well, you know what they say about when you assume. Anyway, while the X2 has better specs in general, the Inc2 has a lot more ram; so it's perfectly reasonable for the Inc2 to perform better at some tasks. There can also be a big difference in what android version they're running, what launcher they're using, what other apps are running in the background, etc. At any rate, if a Droid X2 is taking 7 seconds to open the camera as you say, there is something wrong with that particular phone. My Droid X doesn't take even half that long at its worst.
