No, there are none that truly offer unlimited data without caps or throttling. Unlimited has a different meaning when you are talking wireless. It's not the same as the difference you might see for the word in a dictionary.

My ideal arrangement given that true unlimited is probably not practical would be a prepaid arrangement where I could buy 1GB data allocations at a reasonable price. Perhaps $10/GB.

Virgin Mobile/Boost apparently have unlimited 4g (WiMax) data on their prepaid plans. If you live in an area that actually has WiMax coverage, this is a way you could get reasonably fast unlimited data with no caps or throttling.

I wouldn't consider it, because although there is WiMAX coverage in my general area, the coverage is like Swiss cheese.

One of the main reasons I decided not to stay with Boost. Clearwire never finished their build-out in the Phoenix area. There's only like five towers around here and none by where I live and work.

Most of us. On the 5 gigabyte plan use some sort of wifi calling solutions. not the t mobile 1 they charge for that.

I wouldn't either, but it technically meets the OP's criteria, so I thought it was worth a mention.

they're smart. Instead of spending billions to upgrade their network they figured all they had to do was light up the 3G icon on your phone.

But unfortunately, metro's lte is slow as balls last I heard. Have they improved? Hell, my friends who had metro in the oakland / bay area couldn't even keep up a legitimate voice call and always ended up calling from a friend's phone.

They do seem to be growing rapidly and I'm excited to see what happens in the next few years

Hey, if Metro had service where I live, I would probably at least try it. Maybe some day.
