    Backup jail broken phone

So, I'm expecting to get my phone factory unlocked in the next day or so. I'm on 5.1.1 and want to know the best way to backup my jail broken iPhone so that I can as easily as possible get it back to its current state after doing the restore to have the unlock take effect.

    TIA

I just did the factory unlocked from ATT yesterday and I have always used "PKFBackup" (paid app. in Cydia) and never have a problem getting everything back to before restore state. Basically do PKFBackup backup and then sync with iTune first, then do restore. After that you want to jailbreak again, go to Cydia and reinstall PKFBackup app. from your "already purchased" list in Cydia, and lastly do restore from PKFBackup. Everything back to the state before restore.

You don't need to backup and restore, just use Redsn0w to deactivate and plug it into iTunes and it gets unlocked and activated.

I might be missing something but I don't see anything in redsn0w about deactivating my iphone, can you point me to exactly where it is?

You have to hit jailbreak, put phone in DFU, then hit deactivate...done

If you must restore, just use OpenBackup.

So I got the unlock notification today so Im reporting back. Really theres no reason to worry about backing up your iphone before doing the unlock. You can do the following without doing a restore from scratch.

    1. Insert non accepted sim
    2. Connect to iTunes
    3. Wait till it detects the phone and then disconnect it
    4. Wait approx 10 seconds and reconnect the phone again.

I then got the standard "Congrats, Your iPhone has been unlocked blah blah blah" message all without having to worry about reloading my data or whatever.
