If you sign for two years you can get the subsidized price on a phone or is that not an option?
Have you looked at the One S? It's a really decent device as well.

I sold my original MyTouch 4G and switched to Verizon. I don't get reception in my home with Verizon so i am switching back. I have about 300$ to work with. I found an amaze on Craigslist for 280 that is used but only a week old. I am also looking into the galaxy S II, what would you recommend?

I will not enter a contract with T-mobile or any other carrier. I will be using the 70$ Monthly 4G plan. The one S looks good but something about it seems cheap. I have been really looking into the amaze and the S II but am also open to other options, I only have 300 to work with though. My total spending budget is 350$ but I need to get a case and screen protectors at some point.
I know it's $400 but I'd still recommend the Galaxy Nexus via the Play Store. It's pentaband so you can use it on any GSM network anywhere in the world. Plus you get all the sweet goodness of a hackable, pure Google phone. I've been rocking mine sans case and haven't had any issues. The body and back cover do not blemish easily and the glass (plastic?) has yet to scratch even after dropping it several times.
That said, I also use the Lumia 710 and would certainly recommend that too, especially as an affordable off-contract phone. Windows Phone is quite good if you give it a chance, I've certainly come to love it and Nokia is very good about providing premium apps and delivering updates. What I like especially is that it has all North American bands (only lacks 900MHz) so you can use it on AT&T, T-Mo, or any GSM MVNO in the states once unlocked.
I'm just like you in that I'm rabidly against contracts and I take it a step further and only buy phones that can run on all possible networks so I can take advantage of the fact that I'm not tied to any one carrier. Frankly if you're willing to buy a T-Mo branded phone, you might as well enter into a contract because it's not like you can take it anywhere else anyway (well...not for use on 3G anyway). Just my two cents, hope it helps![]()

The only problem with buying a used phone from Craigslist is the possibility of it being blacklisted and not usable on T-Mobile.
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage
Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network
Or it could be a brick in a box.
Does this work for you?

In general, if I buy used, I do it on ebay where there's a return policyAs an ebay seller of many used phones myself, I can tell you there are quality sellers on there...just be sure to do you due diligence

The Nexus just doesn't leave me with more to want. It's a nice phone and all but I just feel its lacking in a few places. Now I'm too scared to even consider buying a Used T-mobile phone period. AT&T has some decent devices but it seems like its a pain in the a$$ to get them to work on T-Mobile HSDPA+. What is my best option? cowboom.com? What should i do.

I've bought used phones at cowboom and they are hit and miss. Some are in great condition while others only moderate. I personally use a small local phone store that specializes in T-Mobile. They get used gear all the time and I snap them up cheap (well sometimes not as cheap as I'd like)
Cheers,
at&t Note is the best phone to use on T-mobile
