Yes, you can have much larger updates. You should be fine as long as you don't use more than 100MB in a day. Always best to do updates while on wifi. There should be a setting on your phone to only do updates on wifi.

i got my phone and it said it needed to be updated a few apps were outa date and such

All updates are done when the owner chooses. The Original Poster did not have to do the updates at the moment the need was discovered.
