Vz phone's don't need to be flashed to be used on vz prepaid and no they won't work on the 50 unlimited plan. You can still use them on vz prepaid but it will cost about 80 to 90 a month.

You could use them on Page Plus, a Verizon MVNO with BYOD but no LTE. They have unlimited voice, text, and 2GB of 3G data for $55/mo.
For Page Plus, I'd suggest the Droid Incredible 2. LTE phones are more difficult to activate and, officially, iPhones are not allowed.
Neither Page Plus nor Verizon prepaid smartphones have LTE . Verizon does offer LTE prepaid broadband and mifi for usb sticks and tablets but no LTE for smartphones. Yet.
Actually Page Plus's non-roaming coverage is not exactly the same as Verizon prepaid. I have tested this while on a long road trip. The coverage map on the Page Plus site is a better guide than Verizon's prepaid map. If the OP has Verizon native coverage, I agree Page Plus is the way to go.
Where did you read that it can be done? I doubt if they are authorized dealers for Verizon. Think independents doing it under-the-table.
OP
It can be done. Just google it.
To answer OP's question , ANY cdma device can have esn black magic (illegal esn rewriting) done to it to fool the system into thinking it is any number of allowed Verizon prepaid devices, other then that and say a system quirk, not gonna happen.
