There are two storage areas with iPhones, random access memory and flash memory. Random access memory is where programs actually run. The operating system manages that memory by shuffling memory assigned to the programs actually running at one time. This memory ranges from 128 megabytes to 512 megabytes depending upon the iPhone model. The other type of storage is flash memory. It would be the analog of hard drive memory on a computer. This is what 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB are referencing. This is where programs, music, contacts, ringtones, etc are stored. Many of the applications are compressed so that they take less time to download. You must have enough flash memory to temporaily store the downloaded application, any expanded files created during the installation, the new application plus the old version of the application until it is deleted during the installation process.
Yeah I see what u mean. The reason y I'm asking is because I'm trying to update an app. The app is 327 megabytes. I have 668 megabytes free. Thats what I'm confused about is because every time I click update its said not enough space. I deleted a lot of apps to have that much free space to update this app. And it still saids I don't have enough

Do you have the Facebook app? One time I was checking in settings and that thing had bloated to 1.2GB in size. I don't know why Facebook can't hire programmers who know what they're doing, but whatever. Anyway, if you have Facebook, delete it and then you should have enough space. If not, just delete any other apps that don't store data in the phone, or better yet download it on itunes an then connect your phone to your computer AND THEN install the app.
If you only have 600 some MB free your iPhone will not run very smooth to begin with, with or without any new apps. In my experience you need about 1-2 GB of free space for the phone to run smoothly. The OS needs a little room to breathe, to store temporary files and cache stale data and swap inactive memory for active memory and so on. If you don't have at least 1 GB free, performance is degraded noticeably. I recommend you get rid of some stuff you don't need all the time and free up some more space.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.
