How do I delete a system update?

My Prevail downloaded a system update. My phone is rooted, so the update is unable to install, but it keeps bugging me to install it. How do I get rid of the file and/or the notification that it needs to be installed?

You would need to locate the specific Dalvik VM running that supports your notification bar. You would then need to isolate that DVM and suspend it, not killing it. You would then need to modify the specific system process created from the previous DVM, specifically android.app.NotificationManager. then, reattach the modified system component to the suspended VM, and restart Dalvik.

When you root a device, you run the risk of certain features not working correctly. Is this update is pushed to your phone by Boost continuously, it may brick your phone if the software finds a work-around.

Sounds like it might just be easier to just use Odin and update it manually. The update before this bricked my wife's phone. Luckily, installing Odin fixed it nicely. Just a slight pain to start over like that.

As near as I can tell, the workaround that always works for me is wiping the cache (that gets rid of the downloaded update) and then installing the build.prop from the most recent update, which makes the phone think it is up-to-date.

Gotanmp3 has it on the nose. You can also make a backup of your contacts and text messages and use Odin. Its a bit of a hassle but Odin is THE program for Samsung phones. Good luck.

As a former Prevail owner (and current Marquee owner) this has worked for both phones when prompted for updates.

Must be rooted of course. Buy the app AutoStarts from the Android Marketplaces (Goolge Play, whatever they call it today). I believe it was $2.50. Well worth it.

Go into "after startup" scroll down until you see "Google Services Framework" (for mine there were 3) open each, one will say "com.google.android.gsf.update.SysstemUpdatesServc es$Receiver" hit the "disable" button. Reboot. The update nag goes away forever.

Full disclosure: I simplified the instructions I found here to be successful with my Prevail. HTH
