Blackberry SIM on iPhone - what happens?

    Alright folks,

I have a Telus blackberry SIM - what happens if I stick the sim into my iPhone. Will I be charged additional data?

Note: My plan also gives me unlimited data - i assume the presumtion is that i'm using a blackberry.

Unlimited data or unlimited messaging or unlimited social media?

There was not real unlimited data plan for blackberry on the HSPA network so it's almost certainly one of the limited plans.

Using the iphone on a plan with a data limit like 1GB or 6GB works great. Using the unlimited messaging plan or social media would charge you at the same rate as tethering on that plan.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

what do you mean using a 1gb or 6gb works great? does that mean i won't get charged?

    this is what it says:
Email and Web Browsing Unlimited (Tethering Not Included)
    BlackBerry Messenger Unlimited in Canada
Unlimited Canadian and US Data Included (Tethering Not Included)

its confussing. No mention of social.

Tethering not included pretty much means "DANGER DANGER" when it comes to using that plan in another phone.

What is the name of the plan exactly?
What phone model are you using now?

Interesting question. I think it comes down to the fact your iPhone's default APN setting uses a different server then the APN setting on the your BlackBerry, meaning I think you could get charged as it may not be covered in your Blackberry plan. Check the APN settings of the Telus BB, not sure if it is still bb.telus.com. Check the APN settings on the iPhone, see if they are any different. I think your best bet of not getting charged is to use the BB APN for the iPhone.

I think you should call in though and try to see if you can get someone helpful who may know more. Anyways I may be wrong but this is just what I am thinking.

If you can call into Telus and have them switch between iPhone and BlackBerry unlimited data plans, then that would be the safest option for you. I remember not having an issue with Fido when switching my data plan between BlackBerry and iPhone.

If you're on the BB data plan, switching to an iPhone is not a problem, You just need to make sure you've got the correct APN settings when you start up the iPhone.

Also remember the SIM card in the iPhone is smaller, so you'll either need to do a SIM swap or some surgery.
But on the plus side, I knocked over the SunSphere.

Yes I'm on a corp plan.

Okay so I checked my apn on my iPhone and it was ISP.telus.com. I assume that was the default apn. With my bb sim in the iPhone - data worked fine. I switched it to bb.telus.com and data still works.

I turned tethering on when apn was ISP.telus.com and it worked. Only used a few kb.

I'll have to wait and see when I get a bill.

The setting is not on the phone you must a little utility to switch to bb.telus.com

Just check on your account ... In usage ... You see the charge or if is free...
