sounds like they are backhauling to a switch in Kansas City and they didnt implement anything in the system to route emergency calls based on MSAG.

So this happened over the weekend. I always wondered why when you dial a wrong number, the message at the very end says "Message XX, MCI". MCI is Kansas City's abbreviation (Their airport IATA code is KCMI).
http://www.klkntv.com/story/18879514...utes-911-calls
"A major glitch in a cell phone provider has police sending out a warning to residents.
Lincoln police tell us that all 911 calls made from cell phones using Cricket Service are being routed to the Kansas City area. This goes for any call made in the Lincoln to Omaha coverage area."
I wonder how long this was going on, because when I had Cricket, there was a little while where the code on the end would be for example, "Message 36, OMA" for Omaha. Then I noticed it switched to "MCI" around November for no apparent reason. I hope this hasn't been going on for that long and the police just now noticed.
Either way, this is a pretty big screw up. Either Cricket has no idea what their doing when it comes to running their own cell sites, or the company they contract with (Crown Castle, American Tower) has no idea what their doing, which I highly doubt.
I left Cricket after countless billing issue's, the stores wouldn't answer the phones, unhelpful customer support at the stores, I couldn't take it anymore. I switched to Boost, and am much happier. Its nice knowing I can go into any Sprint store, and they'll help me as if I was a normal Sprint customer.
It wouldn't surprise me if they closed a local switch as a cost cutting measure and this was a unnoticed bug in the process of the move over of services. Then again it may be a minor error and they may have been doing this the entire time. I'd have to ask a switch tech to know for sure.
All I know is that they outlined in a leaked document from last year plans to sell all 123 company owned cell sites as well as close & backhaul as many switch sites as possible as a cost cutting measure. This may possibly be the case in your situation.
This company is in a very bad financial situation and I encourage you to read through this forum to get a greater understanding of the issues that are ongoing.
