It stands to reason that as soon as they have enough stock for upgrades, that those that preregistered will be the first people to be able to purchase one.

I just can't believe the complaining about this (not aimed at you SharpieFiend, just speaking generally here). If you're looking to upgrade, then you're already a customer and have a phone already. It's not like you're doing without in any way.
If you're in that much of a hurry, that you absolutely MUST have the phone when it first comes out, then you aren't buying a phone, you're buying a status symbol.

To be told I have to wait a month (if true) and the 'exclusive' deal is a $25 discount (if true, but I doubt it) feels to me like a steel toed kick to the crotch.
